  • Lady Hawks defeat Grayson

    Sophomore guard Lyndsay Whitlock scored 21 points, leading the LaRue County Lady Hawks to their sixth win in eight games with a 63-62 victory over visiting Grayson County Feb. 2.

    Whitlock also had six rebounds, three rebounds and one steal, while twin sister Valerie Whitlock chipped in with 14 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal.

    Eighth-grade guard Anna Bowling added 13 points and one assist and freshman guard/forward Shana Zajdel had eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

  • Hawks continue winning ways over...

    Host LaRue County (17-3) built a 20-point lead in the first half and held on for a 63-51 win Feb. 3 over Meade County.

    Senior post Bryan Bault had 22 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one block for the Hawks (16-3), winners of 3-of-4.

    LaRue County senior forward Tyler Hornback just missed a double-double (19 points, nine rebounds) and senior guard Christian Seymour added 11 points, four steals and two assists.

  • Yard sale, soup supper benefit...

    Two benefits for the Lady Hawks softball team are set for Feb. 14.

    The team will have a yard sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 14 in the LCMS cafeteria. Beginning at noon, you can purchase a 22-gallon bag for $5 and fill it with as many items as possible.

  • Hawks avenge only 18th District...

    BOYS' VARSITY BASKETBALL

    LaRue County avenged an earlier loss to Green County and earned the top spot in the 18th District standings.

    The boys' varsity basketball team is 17-3 on the season following Friday night's 61-58 win in Greensburg. The Hawks' only loss in district play came Jan. 9 at home against Green County.

    Next up for the Hawks is a Tuesday night game at Nelson County. The team makes another road trip Friday to Taylor County. The next scheduled home game is Saturday, Feb. 14, against Logan County.

  • State Wrestling Duals canceled

    The LaRue County High School Mat Hawks were to wrestle in the State Duals at Henry Clay High School in Lexington Saturday.

    The ice storm that covered the state canceled the event. It is the first time in the Duals’ history that it has been canceled, according to Eddie Paden, father of wrestler Nick Paden.

  • Slow start, late 'dry spell...

    Falling behind 9-0 at the outset, LaRue County's boys' varsity basketball team lost by nine Friday, Jan. 23, at Central Hardin.

    “I think we were too keyed up,” Coach Paul Childress said after the 53-44 loss. “We got in a hurry a lot early.”

    LaRue was scoreless until the 2:35 mark in the first quarter but managed to pull within three at 11-8 by the quarter’s end. The same margin existed at halftime at Central led 25-22 and Central held a 39-35 edge entering the final period.

  • LaRue unable to convert during...

    LaRue County missed an opportunity for a fourth-quarter rally as poor shooting plagued the Lady Hawks throughout the girls' varsity game Friday at Central Hardin. LaRue scored the game's first goal but never led again in the 49-31 defeat.

    Entering the fourth quarter down by 16, LaRue's defense forced some turnovers but the Lady Hawks were unable to convert. In a post-game interview, Coach Travis Wootton said the team missed five straight layups in one stretch that could have cut the lead to five.

  • Middle school wrestlers...

    The LaRue County Middle School Mat Hawks captured their sixth consecutive Region One title Saturday.

    Three grapplers won their weight class – Spencer Hines at 89 pounds; B.J. Carman at 185 pounds; and Nathan Bell at 230 pounds.

    Other medalists were Tootie Franklin, second at 75 pounds; Kyle Edlin, third at 82 pounds; Dylan West, fourth at 96 pounds; Caleb Canter, second at 103 pounds; Raymundo Perez, second at 110 pounds; and Kyler Gray, third at 150 pounds.

    All nine qualified for the state tournament by finishing in the top four of their weight class.

  • Sportsmen for Christ plan banquet

    Sportsmen for Christ wild game banquet will be 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at South Fork Baptist Church on U.S. 31E. Guest speaker is Jeff Eaton.
