  • Hawks defeat Bardstown Bethlehem...

    The LaRue County Hawks varsity baseball team had a full slate last week playing five games and winning four of them. They beat Bardstown Bethlehem 8-3 and 5-3, beat Louisville Central 6-1, lost to Marion County 8-7 and beat Bardstown 7-3.

    The Hawks swept the Bardstown Bethlehem Eagles in a doubleheader May 11 by scores of 8-3 and 5-3. Slade Owens improved his record to 7-2 going seven innings giving up five hits and two earned runs in the first game.

  • Brewer accepts coaching position...

    James “Boo” Brewer was introduced Monday afternoon as head coach of his alma mater, Bardstown High.

    A graduate of the Class of 1988, Brewer played collegiate ball at the University of Louisville.

    It’s the first head coaching job for Brewer, who most recently was a boys and girls assistant at LaRue County.

    “It’s very special,” Brewer said about taking over at his alma mater. “That purple’s always been in my blood.”

  • Lady Hawks retire Nicky Miller...

    For Lady Hawk fans and former players, the memories of former All-State catcher Nicky Miller performance in the 2005 semi-finals of the 5th Region tournament at Lady Hawk field will live on. As the underdog home team was playing perennial state powerhouse and region favorite Meade County, it was Nicky Miller’s three home run performance that left an unforgettable mark on everyone in attendance. It was simply just another day for Miller, but one more addition to the Lady Hawks’ record book that has her name in the top three of many categories.

    Softball 18th District Tournament begins May 24 at American Legion Park, Greensburg. The second-seeded Lady Hawks play third-seeded Hart County 6:30 p.m. CST May 24. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Green vs. Caverna game at 5:30 p.m. CST May 25.

  • Lady Hawks back on track with...

    In any sport, is there such a thing as a good loss? The Lady Hawks suffered a loss to Fort Knox, a team they beat 16-3 earlier in the year, 6-5 on Tuesday night. After the game, the players sat in shock, tears streamed from most of the players’  eyes, the coaching staff stood speechless, as Fort Knox had a well-deserved celebration on Lady Hawk field.

  • Lady Hawks enjoy record-breaking...

    Lady Hawks junior leftfielder and lead batter Valerie Whitlock is having the best year of her softball career as she is leading the team in every offense category including most hits in a season with 48 as she surpassed Amanda Eastridge who had 44 hits in 1997.

    She has reached base in 20 of 25 games and has scored 18 times in the first inning.
