  • Hawks win tournament

    Good outside shooting from senior Christian Seymour and some timely late baskets from Tyler Hornback led the LaRue County Hawks to defeat of the Central Hardin Bruins. The win brought the Hawks to 12-0 for the season.

    Seymour buried 5-of-7 3-pointers and Hornback scored seven fourth-quarter points as the host Hawks held off the Bruins, 58-48 in the championship game of the eight-team National Guard Holiday Classic.

  • LCHS softball holds tryouts...

    The Lady Hawks softball team will hold tryouts for their freshman team for all girls in fifth through ninth grades 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the new sports building on the LaRue County High School campus. The building is behind the baseball field.

    Bring gloves and bat. Cleats are not allowed in the building.

  • Hawks defeat Commanders by 2 for...

    The LaRue County High School Hawks won their homecoming Feb. 17 by defeating the Washington County Commanders 72-70.

    Seniors Tyler Hornback, Bryan Bault and Christian Seymour were introduced for the final time at the LCHS gym as the Hawks completed their final season game.

    The Hawks and Commanders battled toe to toe as both teams came out red-hot matching 3-pointers and easy baskets in transition.

  • Hawks advance in 18th District...

    Bryan Bault hit four free throws with under 30 seconds to go in LaRue’s first-round 18th District game Monday night at Hart County, helping salvage a 53-47 win for the No. 1 seeded Hawks over the host Raiders.

    “He was huge,” said LaRue head coach Paul Childress, speaking of his 6-3 senior. “He’d been struggling from the line all year, but he came through tonight in the clutch.”

  • Mat Hawks take seventh at state...

    The LaRue County High School Mat Hawks qualified 11 wrestlers to the KHSAA State Wrestling tournament in Frankfort Feb. 19-21. First rounds started Thursday morning.

    Overall, the team took seventh. Trinity won the tourney.

    Senior Des Jakes, the 152-pounder for the Mat Hawks went undefeated until the championship round Saturday night, falling to Issac Ervin of Union County, 7-3.

  • Youth baseball signup is Saturday

    Youth baseball signups are 10 a.m-1 p.m Saturday, Feb. 28, in the cafeteria of Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. Enrollment is for ages 4-15.

  • Lady Hawks softball team...

    The LaRue County High School Lady Hawks softball team will conduct a softball clinic for girls 12 and younger Saturday, Feb. 28, at the high school field house.

    Registration is at 8:30 a.m. The clinic starts at 9 a.m. Cost is $20 per individual or $30 for multiple family members. All proceeds go to the softball program.

  • Lady Hawks win homecoming

    LaRue’s Lady Hawks defeated the Washington County Commanderettes 55-45 in their homecoming game Feb. 17.

    Washington County hit 39 percent of their field goal attempts and 33 percent of 3-pointers. LaRue hit 27.8 percent of field goal attempts and 17 percent of 3-pointers.

    LaRue’s free throws made the difference, hitting 64 percent of shots. LaRue hit 22 of 34 free throw attempts; Washington hit 7 of 23.

  • Wrestlers take seventh in state

    The LaRue County Mat Hawks finished the season at the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament as runners up in the small school division and seventh overall. Four Mat Hawks finished in the top eight of their weight class.

    “I am proud of the way we competed,” said head coach Gary Canter. “Every match was a hard-fought affair and every point was important. Only eight points separated fifth from ninth place.”
