  • Lady Hawks freshman team...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks freshman softball team finished the first week of the 2010 season with two close losses and two convincing wins.

    On March 24, the Lady Hawks traveled to Nelson County to face an experienced Cardinal team in doubleheader action, losing 3-1 and 10-8. March 27, the Lady Hawks hosted the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs and defended their home field in convincing fashion, winning 7-2 and 13-0 (three innings).

    Coach Dean R. Miller said he was very pleased with the effort both days.

    Won against Campbellsville 2-0 (Set 1 Score:  21-15; Set 2 Score:  21-15)

    Lost to Hart County 2-0 (Set 1 Score:  21-7; Set 2 Score:  21-17)

    Won against Russell County 2-0 (Set 1 Score:  21-12; Set 2 Score:  21-18)

    Won against Campbellsville 2-0 (Set 1 Score:  21-11; Set 2 Score:  21-12)

    Lost to Green County 2-0 (Set 1 Score:  21-15; Set 2 Score:  21-14)

  • Tennis teams benefit from...

    LaRue County High School’s tennis teams have come into their own as regional powers in the past few seasons.

    The boys and girls squads have a combined 129-34 won-lost record over the past five years. Nine individuals have advanced to the state tournament. The conference champion boys’ team claimed its first-ever regional title last season. The girls were runners-up in both conference and region.

    Coach Chris Estes was named coach of the year in 2007 and 2008.

  • Lady Hawks whip E'town in...

    When the 2010 version of the Lady Hawks softball team took to the field March 22, the players were ready to start a new chapter in the history book.

    No longer are there players left from the 2005 regional championship team. This team is ready to get back to the top of the 5th Region, and be considered a contender for that trip to the KHSAA State Tournament. 

  • Volunteers needed for Parks and...

    The LaRue County Youth Baseball League is inviting community members to join in the work of preparing the county park for this year’s Little League baseball and softball season. 

    Interested residents can pitch in by contributing needed items, donating funds or by volunteering their time during an upcoming workday Saturday, March 27. The event begins at 8 a.m. at LaRue County Parks and Recreation.

  • Hawks defeat Caverna 12-1

    Kyle Sheeran singled twice and scored three runs, and the visiting LaRue County Hawks exploded for nine runs in the first three innings en route to a 12-1 win Monday in five innings over 18th District rival Caverna.

    Slade Owens singled twice and drove in a run, and Jesse Johnson had two singles, two runs and an RBI for the Hawks, who didn’t have an extra-base hit.

    Kyle Meredith (1-0) struck out two and allowed three hits, one walk and one earned run in three innings.

  • Whitlock and Brown named to...

    Lady Hawks Ivy Brown and Lyndsay Whitlock were named to the 18th District regular season basketball team.

    Whitlock was named to the 18th District All-Tourney Team.

    Brown, an eighth-grader, also was named to the All-5th Region Team.

  • Lady Hawks show a burn to succeed

    Many coaches dream for their players to have a burning desire for the game they play. As a player, I had that burn from grade school all the way through my years at the University of Louisville. My life was softball, my desire was to beat the best, so I can be the best. Secretly, I wondered, did anyone else have that burn like me?
