  • Padgett’s 400-meter...

    Fourteen teams competed April 11 at the LaRue County Invitational Track and Field Meet. Some of the best athletes in the state of Kentucky gathered for some friendly, yet fierce competition. Teams came from as far as Jefferson County to the north and Warren County to the south. 

    “We like to come up here to LaRue County and compete,” said Will West of Bowling Green High School. “The people here are real friendly and the competition is excellent. This allows us to determine how we measure up to other teams around the state.” 

  • Tennis teams split win with...

    In LaRue’s only tennis match of the week, the girls’ and boys’ team split one each facing a tough Nelson County team Thursday in Hodgenville.

    The girls' team was edged out 3-2 but with winning efforts from Kameron Howell in singles competition and Betsy Durham and Paige Nalley in doubles.

    The boys’ team swept Nelson in match play 5-0 with impressive outings from Bo Haun and Brent Gozzard.

  • Hawks defeat Grayson, fall to E...

    LaRue County battled Grayson County to a 7-2 victory in baseball action Tuesday.

    Scott Cox got the call as LaRue’s starting pitcher going the distance and getting the win.

    “I tried to throw strikes and get ahead in the count,” Cox said. “It was a fun and challenging outing.”

    The Hawks backed up his pitching efforts with good base running and some key hits that helped put Grayson away.

  • LaRue County will host Wooden...

    The LaRue County High School baseball team will host a unique tournament Friday and Saturday. Only wooden bats will be used.

    The KHSAA allows high school teams to use aluminum bats but in this case, each team will receive wooden bats to the round-robin event.

    Somerset, DeSales and Adair County will visit Hodgenville for the Wooden Bat Classic, sponsored by Nall's Specialized Healing.

    LCHS is hosting the event for the first time although the Hawks have participated in similar wooden bat events at other locations.

    The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce will hold its 15th annual golf scramble 10:30 a.m. April 18 at the LaRue County Country Club, 1175 Greensburg Road, Hodgenville.

    First place is $400 plus jackpot.

  • Pro baseball team welcomes...

    Clay Underwood, formerly of LaRue County, will perform the National Anthem on Friday, which is opening night of the Bowling Green Hot Rods' inaugural season.

    The baseball team is a Class A affiliate of the American League champion Tampa Bay Rays. They take on the Kannapolis Intimidators opening night.

    Underwood, who now lives in Horse Cave, was asked to perform follow the success of his current album, New Beginnings and Old Honky Tonks.

    Two students from Sallee’s Family Taekwondo of Hodgenville recently were promoted to the American Taekwondo Association trainee instructor program.

    These students will be responsible for teaching Taekwondo under the direct supervision of the school’s owner/head instructor, Randal Sallee Jr. and David Perkins, assistant instructor.
