  • Mat Hawks second at State Duals

The LaRue County Hawks’ quest for another State Duals wrestling championship started strong Saturday, but fizzled late.

The final match began at 138 pounds and LaRue County led 23-15 after the heavyweights before getting blanked the rest of the final.

  • BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks lose to E...

LaRue County’s Lady Hawks had a rough first quarter Jan. 23 as they played the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers at Charlie Rawlings Memorial Stadium.

They gave up seven turnovers and misfired on their first 12 shots from the field.

“That's what they do on their home floor," LaRue’s Coach Travis Wootton said. "I think it was nerves and figuring things out. They're one of the best defensive teams in the state. You have to be aggressive against them and I thought they were more aggressive than us in the first quarter."

The LaRue County Hawks fell to Barren County 56-66 Jan. 17.
Hawks Coach Paul Childress called it a “tale of two halves.”
LaRue played “decent defense in the first half and especially finished strong at the end of the second quarter,” he said.
The Trojans were down by seven points (28-21) at intermission but, unfortunately for the Hawks, rallied in the second half. They outscored LaRue 22-12 in the third period.
