  • Hawks drop football opener to...

    The LaRue County Hawks fell to Mercer County 45-27 in the final game Saturday of the Forcht Bank Bowl at Campbellsville High School.

    The Hawks couldn’t stop Mercer sophomore running back James Johnson who had 281 yards and two touchdowns. Mercer had 361 yards on 43 carries.

    LaRue had 256 yards.

    LaRue’s scores came on carries by junior fullback Drew Newberry, junior running back Cody Thompson and senior running back Alex Lee.

    Newberry rushed for a team-high 81 yards and two touchdowns; Lee and Thompson had a touchdown each.

  • Hawks outlast Eagles and a...

    The LaRue County Hawks soccer team opened the 2010 season with a 1-0 victory over the home-standing North Bullitt Eagles. The Hawks outshot the Eagles 12-5 and senior goal keeper Bo Haun recorded the shutout with five saves.

    The Hawks were relentless on the attack in the first half with eight shots on frame before senior striker Dylan White notched the only goal of the match. At the 28 minute mark, senior midfielder Dillon Walker gave a hard-driven pass to White, who lofted the ball over the keeper’s head into the net.

  • Lady Hawks smack Louisville...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks soccer team opened their 2010 season by staring at defeat before roaring back and emerging with a 2-2 draw against the Lady Eagles of North Bullitt.

    The Lady Hawks started seven freshmen against the more experienced Eagles.

    The first half of this match was a jostling of position and possession. The Lady Hawks battled hard and did not allow an opponent score. Sophomore goalkeeper Kasey Wells was battered, making six saves in the first half, some at point-blank range, some with dives.

  • Lady Hawks continue perfect...

    The Lady Hawks are on a roll winning their first five volleyball games, the last two on their home court. Their most recent wins were Aug. 17 against the Hart County Lady Raiders winning 25-19 and 25-18 and then against Marion County Lady Knights Aug. 19 with scores of 25-18 and 25-21.

    Hart hacked

    It was a real barn burner when District rivals the Hart County Lady Raiders invaded LaRue County. The Lady Hawks won the match winning the second set 25-19 and the third set 25-18 after losing the first set 24-26.

  • Registration under way for...

    Registration for the American Lung Association’s 25th Anniversary Bike Trek to Shakertown is underway and space is limited.

    The event is scheduled for Sept. 18-20 and begins and ends in Harrodsburg.

    Beginners can choose the basic route of 30-35 miles each day, while those wanting a greater challenge can opt for a 69-mile, moderately hilly ride on Saturday and a similar route on Sunday. Monday’s routes will both be shorter.

  • Meredith tops at Bluegrass

    Bluegrass Speedway presented its 12th annual Bluegrass 50 Saturday and Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. grabbed the checkered flag in the 50 lap, $5,000 to win event for the 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model division.

  • BackPack program scores $2,500...

    Saturday’s Wolverine Classic raised $2,500 toward the Feeding America BackPack Program which helps needy children and families in the area.

    Longtime Wolverine lineman Charlie Hopkins said the money was good enough to sponsor 30 kids for the school year. The program provides food to children for the weekend.

    Receiver JaJuan Spillman and running back Moonie Cunningham each scored three touchdowns as the Wolverines wrapped up their regular season with a 61-0 win over the visiting Columbus (Ohio) Gladiators at LaRue County High School.

  • Kennedy breaks school record as...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks volleyball team started off their season last week with three solid victories against tough competition. They beat Taylor County Aug. 9 by the scores of 25-21 and 25-17; North Hardin Aug. 10, 25-14 and 25-21; and Caverna Aug. 13, 25-11 and 25-14.

    Head Coach Ben Schell said the Lady Hawks’ first match was “a good result.”

  • Lady Hawks to 'Volley for...

    The Lady Hawks volleyball team will host the annual Volley for the Cure Aug. 19 in a home game against Marion County.

    The team will sell “Volley for the Cure” T-shirts at $10 each to raise funds for breast cancer research. Larger size shirts are $12.
