  • Golfers eye regional championship

    The 27 boy golfers that came out to play this season are the largest number that Coach Rip Collins can recall in his four years mentoring the LaRue County High School Hawks or even when he was at Caverna for four years prior to that.

    “We’re young, but there’s a lot of talent here and if these boys will stick together, I think we’ll even have a shot at a regional championship down the road,” he said. “It’s not even out of the realm to get to state.”

  • LaRue County Youth Soccer...

    The LaRue County Youth Soccer Association has a new home this season. On Saturday, Sept. 11, the group will open fields behind Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. The school is at 2101 Lincoln Farm Road.

    The celebration begins at 9 a.m. and all parents, players, coaches and fans are invited to attend.

    LCYSA President Heather Cook said volunteer workers are needed for concession sales and field painting. Supplies are available.

  • Lady Hawks tie Barren County

    The LaRue County girls’ soccer team lost three games in a row before rebounding to tie Barren County 3-3 Sept. 1.

    The team dropped 0-7 to Bardstown Aug. 23; 1-6 to Bullitt East Aug. 25; and 0-7 to Nelson County Aug. 30.

    The visiting Lady Tigers led 1-0 before scoring three goals in a five-minute span late in the first half to win their third straight game by shutout.

    Sophomore keeper Kasey Wells made four saves for the Lady Hawks (1-1-1).

    Bardstown outshot LaRue County, 10-4.

  • Hawks defeat Shelby County as...

    LaRue County running backs Alex Lee, Drew Newberry and Cody Thompson each ran for at least 100 yards and Hawks coach Rodney Armes earned his 100th career win with the program as the Hawks surged past the Shelby County Rockets 19-7 on Friday night in both teams’ Class 4-A, District 4 opener.

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks volleyball team won four of six matches last week defeating Fort Knox, Union County, Fort Campbell and Calloway County. Their two losses were at the Western Kentucky Smackdown to Christian County and Clarksville Northeast, a Tennessee school.

    Fall softball signups

    LaRue County Youth Softball is having signups for fall league softball for girls 6-14 at LaRue County Parks and Recreation. This is an instructional league to develop pitching and prepare the girls for the upcoming spring season. The cost is $30 and includes a team T-shirt. Signups are 6-8 p.m. Sept. 2 and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 4. For more information, call Regina Devers at 234-6217.
