  • Tennis teams enter 5th Region...

    The LaRue County tennis team entered 5th Region competition Monday at University Park Drive with high hopes of seeing some of their young players in the finals and looking at possible state berths.

    Coach Chris Estes’ young team has shown ambition and drive all year and enter regions with a winning record for both boys' (10-3) and the girls' (8-4) squads.

    Match play started early and saw Nancy Howell and Hannah Carter, a sixth seed in the regional, capturing first round victories 6-0 and 6-1 to Bardstown.

  • Hurdlers, harriers succeed at...

    Seven schools were represented at last week's All-Comers Meet in Hodgenville April 23. Besides LaRue, those present were Nelson County, Bullitt East, Campbellsville, Bethlehem, Bullitt Central and Marion County. The LaRue County boys placed third overall with 89 points as compared to champion Bullitt East's 170. The girls placed second with 97 total points behind Nelson County's 151.

  • Hawks chalk up district wins

    The LaRue County Hawks baseball team captured wins over district foes Green County and Caverna last week.

    Scott Cox slugged two three-run home runs for LaRue in Tuesday night’s 12-11 defeat of Green County.

    “The Green County game was typical for us this year,” Price said. “We scored a lot of runs and we gave up a lot of runs.”

    Cox carried the Hawks with six RBIs but had help at the plate. Max McCubbin was two for two at the plate as well.

  • Parr, Seymour top seeds for...

    Tennis head coach Chris Estes has praised his youthful team since the start of the season. They have seven eighth graders, five freshman, six sophomores, one junior and two seniors.

    Top seeds for the team are sophomore Dylan Parr, in his first year as a singles player, and freshman doubles player Michelle Seymour.

    Parr warranted championships in the conference and regional tournaments last year with now-graduated Terry Caven.

    Parr has been playing years as a tennis player but first displayed his athletic abilities as a baseball player.

  • Tennis teams defeat Eagles

    The LaRue County tennis team notched two wins against Meade County and Fort Knox last week.

    In the Meade match up, the boys’ and girls’ team whipped up on the Green Waves, both defeating their opponent 4-1.

    “I was very impressed with Bo (Haun) and Brent (Gozzard),” Coach Chris Estes said. “They fell a little short, but played extremely well against last year’s regional semifinalist tandem of Jonah Cundiff and David Medley.”

  • Lady Hawks split doubleheader...

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks split a doubleheader April 27 with Elizabethtown’s Lady Panthers.

    LaRue’s ladies won the first game 6-3 and dropped the second 3-1.

    Amelia Miller and Megan Smith shared the win on the mound; Brittany Enlow took the loss in the second game, striking out one and walking none.

    In the first game, senior second baseman Megan Mauldin, senior shortstop Christian Cox and Miller, a freshman, each hit a single. Cox had two steals and two runs scored to go with an RBI, while Mauldin scored once and Miller had two RBIs.

  • Lady Hawks blank Caverna - twice

    Good pitching and timely hitting is always a good recipe for a successful softball team. The LaRue County Lady Hawks did both in their win over the Caverna Lady Colonels last Wednesday in a 10-run, five-inning victory. 

    LaRue had seven base hits to go along with three walks in scoring the 10 runs. At the same time, Amelia Miller struck out seven batters while allowing just two singles in five innings.

  • House hot for Mid-Continent

    Senior Alex House, who plays for Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, had five hits in six at-bats last weekend against Martin Methodist College and has a seven-game hitting streak.

    House, a former LaRue County High School baseball standout, is a centerfielder for the Cougars.

  • Hawks win district games

    LaRue County defeated district foes Green County and Caverna in baseball action last week.

    The Hawks outlasted Green 12-11 Tuesday night. Scott Cox hit two three-run home runs to lead LaRue, which overcame five fielding errors in the win.

    LaRue traveled to Caverna on Wednesday and picked up a 14-1 win. Slade Owens and Jay Eastridge had homers for LaRue. Cox was the winning pitcher.
