  • Seymour qualifies for state

    LaRue County's Michelle Seymour earned a trip to the state tennis tournament in Lexington.

    Seymour, a freshman, entered the 5th Region Tournament as the fourth-seeded girls' singles player. She lost to Elizabethtown’s Emily Cooper, a sophomore, in semifinals, 6-2, 6-2, last week at University Drive Park. Elizabethtown was the overall team champion with champion Jenna Sallee and Cooper as runner-up. That provided a spot for Seymour to qualify as an individual.

    The state tournament begins Thursday at the University of Kentucky.

  • Green tops LaRue for district...

    For the third time in four years, Green County defeated LaRue County for the 18th District softball championship Tuesday. The Lady Dragons won 4-1 at Horse Cave.

    Both teams advance to next week's 5th Region Tournament. Also qualified for the softball regional are North Hardin, Central Hardin, Nelson County, Washington County, Taylor County and Adair County.

    LaRue blasted Hart County 10-3 in Monday's first-round game. Green County, now 26-3, on the season blanked Caverna 16-0 in three innings in its opening round tournament game Monday.

  • LaRue competes at Lincoln...

    Ten teams met at Bardstown High School last Monday at the Lincoln Heartland Conference Track Meet. The LaRue County girls placed 10th while the boys placed sixth.  

    Haley Carrico led the LaRue girls with a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 8 inches, just four inches shy of the winning jump of 5’. Tshacka Chirunga had a seventh place finish in the girls discus with her strongest throw yet of 74’ 4”.

  • Parks and Rec holds cornhole...

    A cornhole tournament is set for 6 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at LaRue County Parks and Recreation. Proceeds go to the LaRue County girls’ youth softball league.

    Entry fee is $20 per team and prizes will be awarded: first, $100; second, $75; and third, $25. Deadline to register is May 14.

    The tournament is part of the LaRue County Youth Softball fun day May 16 at LaRue County Parks and Recreation to kick off the season. There also will be an auction, games and scrimmages for all the teams.

  • Hawks upset DuPont Manual

    What a thrill in the "Ville."

    Underdogs from the first pitch, LaRue stunned sixth-ranked DuPont Manual Tuesday in Louisville at historical Derby City Field 2-1.

    Coach Chris Price was more than pleased with the turnout but credited the win to a great practice Monday.

    "That's what happens when we have a good practice," he told his team after the game, "you guys did a great job today."

    It is one of those games that the seniors will be telling their kids about in years to come.

  • Softball Fun Day planned

    LaRue County Youth Softball is having fun day Saturday, May 16, at LaRue County Parks and Recreation to kick off the season. There will be a benefit auction, a cornhole tournament, games and scrimmages for all the teams.

  • Lady Hawks to be honored in May...

    The LaRue County High School Lady Hawks softball team will honor several former players and retire the jerseys of three players in a May 12 ceremony.

    “… The program has taken a look at all the former Lady Hawks, and will retire the numbers of three most dominant players in our program’s history,” said head coach Mielle DiStefano.

  • LaRue baseball standout promoted

    Jordan Newton is moving up in the baseball world.

    Newton, a former LaRue County standout, was promoted in the Detroit organization, moving from West Michigan to Lakeland, Fla. Both are Class A teams, but Lakeland is considered high Class A.

    Newton was batting .386 with three doubles, two triples and three home runs. He had scored 11 runs and driven in nine. Newton had an on-base percentage of .438 and his slugging percentage was .750.
