  • Seymour wins first state tennis...

    LaRue County High freshman Michelle Seymour dominated her first match as the girls' state tennis tournament got under way Thursday at the University of Kentucky.

    In round two, the seedings put her up against a neighbor from region champion Elizabethtown, singles champion Jenna Sallee. The Panther sophomore defeated Seymour 6-2, 6-0.

    In her state debut earlier in the day, Seymour took a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Emily McKenzie, a Morgan County junior. Her performance exceeded her expectations.

  • Alumni track meet canceled

    LaRue County High School planned to host an alumni vs. current track members track meet. The event has been canceled due to a lack of interest.

    The idea was to create a fun fundraiser for the current track program with an entry fee charged for each event and an admission fee for the event. It was to have been open to all community members as well as former LCHS track and field participants.

  • Pre-participation physicals...

    Pre-participation physicals for LaRue County High School athletes and incoming freshmen are available May 30 at Hardin Memorial Hospital’s Therapy and Sports Medicine Center, 1111 Ring Road, Elizabethtown.

    The physicals begin at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $10 per person.

    A KHSAA pre-participation form must be completed and signed before the physical. A portion of the money collected will be given back to the school in the form of medical supplies.

  • Cardinal Caravan stops in area...

    University of Louisville coaches and athletics staff members will make six regional stops, including a visit Wednesday evening in Elizabethtown, as part of the annual Cardinal Caravan.

    "This eighth annual event allows us to reach out and show our appreciation to those that support our programs throughout the year," said Tom Jurich, director of athletics at U of L. "Our staff enjoys the opportunity to share some time up close with so many loyal Cardinal fans around the region."

  • LaRue athletes advance to state...

    The LaRue County boys placed third out of 12 teams that competed at the regional track meet May 16 at Marion County. The girls placed fifth. 

    “I am very proud of the way we competed at the regional meet,” Coach Jeremy Blair said. “I was a bit disappointed with the team scores, but you have to hand it to Elizabethtown and  Butler County – they really brought it.”

  • LaRue wins eighth straight...

    For the eighth consecutive year, LaRue County is the champion of the 18th District Baseball Tournament.

    The Hawks have won the district title every year since 2002. This year's edition of the team defeated Green County 3-2 Tuesday at Horse Cave to extend the streak.

    It has been an up-and-down season for the Hawks, who enter next week's 5th Region Tournament with a 15-14 record overall. Coach Chris Price's team was unbeaten in seven games against district opponents and 10-4 against 5th Region teams.

  • Lady Hawks raid Hart, earn spot...

    The Lady Hawks began 18th District play Monday with a 10-3 win over Hart County at Caverna.

    “It was just a great team win,” Coach Mielle DiStefano said. “Anytime you can utilize 14-15 players, and they all help in one way or another, you know it’s a good night. I like the way we kept our composure after the first. Ellen Huff just came up big for us.”

    LCHS was not as successful in Tuesday's softball championship game. For the fourth time in five years, Green County defeated the Lady Hawks in the title match. The final score was 4-1..

  • Venegas, Jakes excel at middle...

    Eighth-grader Jackson Venegas and seventh-grader Ramisha Jakes were LaRue County’s top performers in the middle school state track championships.

    Venegas’ throw of 118 feet, 2 inches in the discus competition was good for third place in the boys’ competition.

    Jakes tied for fifth place in the girls’ high jump in the May 9 meet at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington. Her winning distance for 4 feet, 4 inches.

    Their performances accounted for all of the team’s points, which were awarded based on top finishes in the events.

  • Hawks blank Caverna to advance...

    Senior Tyler Hornback drove a fastball over the fence in left field leading his LaRue County Hawks team to a 7-0 win over Caverna in the district tournament opener Monday night at Caverna High School in Horse Cave.

    LaRue has won five straight district titles and has high hopes of making it six straight. But this LaRue County team has depended on the “small ball” type offense and has found themselves struggling at times defensively.

    Monday night, the Hawks were executing on both sides of the ball.
