  • Lady Hawks honored at softball...

The Lady Hawks softball team held its annual banquet Tuesday night to recognize the 43 players. Although the theme was to reflect on the past season, it was also a night to remind the underclassman that preparations for the 2009-10 season begins now.

The banquet began with the recognition of the five seniors. Unfortunately, they could not hold the traditional senior night on the softball field, as the last home game was rained out.

  • Christian Cox gets sole hit in...

Former LaRue County High School Lady Hawk Christian Cox competed in the East vs. West All-Star game June 12-14 at the University of Kentucky.

Cox, who played for the West Seniors, played three games that weekend – two seven-inning games on Saturday and one nine-inning game on Sunday.

Lady Hawk coach Mielle DiStefano coached the West Junior All Stars.

DiStefano said her team defeated the West Seniors, with pitchers combining for a one-hitter.

  • Cyclists travel through county

A group of cyclists following the Wilderness Trail passed through Hodgenville June 10.

The 12 cyclists on the 31-day tour started in St. Louis and will end in Virginia July 1, with riders traveling 50-60 miles a day.

Organizer Tom Armstrong said the members of this group come from all across the United States. Their ages range from 50 to 75-years-old.

  • Dylan Parr named Sophomore of...

Dylan Parr was a crucial piece in LaRue County’s first region tennis title in 2008.

This season, he was the only piece of that puzzle to return.

In a completely foreign situation, Parr still managed to shine, garnering a No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and a No. 6 seed in the region tournament.

Area coaches took notice of Parr’s success and voted him Sophomore of the Year.

“Oh man, that’s unbelievable,” Parr said. “It’s just amazing to win.”

  • Honors keep coming for Lady Hawks

The accolades keep coming for recent graduate and Lady Hawk Christian Cox.

Cox was named to second team All-State in Class 2A fast-pitch softball Sunday.

“This is another great accomplishment to end her high school career,” said Lady Hawk coach Mielle DiStefano.

“Anytime our program can get attention on the state level, you know our program is doing something right.”

Cox, the daughter of Mike and Joy Cox, joins an “elite list of Lady Hawks who have made either first team or second team all state,” DiStefano said.

  • Football field refurbished

In preparation for the football season, the field at LaRue County High School is being prepared for a fresh stand of grass.

  • Officials complying with new...

No one at LaRue County Schools is arguing that the new law requiring high school coaches to complete a sports safety course on how to prevent common injuries is not beneficial.

The cost of complying with HB 383, however, has raised some concerns.

“For every coach to attend a medical symposium could cost the school in excess of $700 every two years,” said LaRue County High School athletic director David Dawson. “This will be seen as a necessary cost, however, to provide a safer environment for our athletes.”

  • Students compete at Gladiator...

Gladiator Sports Week is a smorgasbord of sporting events for LaRue County youth. The summer camp is sponsored by the Family Resource and Youth Service Center.

Wiffle ball, dodge ball and mat ball were just some of the sporting events held Monday. About 14 youths in grades 6-9 participated.

Tennis coach and physical education teacher Chris Estes, in his ninth year of teaching at LaRue County, was pleased with the turnout.

  • Cross country runners sought
