  • TRACK AND FIELD: Durbin wins 1,...

     Sophomore Kristina Durbin won the girls’ 1,600-meter run March 15 at the LaRue County All-Comers Meet. Durbin’s time, 6:00.46, was tops in a field of 14.

    Freshman Nichole Thomas had a good day, placing fourth out of 22 in the 800-meters with a time of 2:48.58; and third in the triple jump with a distance of 28-03.00.

    Junior Misha Jakes tied for second in the high jump with a distance of 4-04.00.

    Senior Sheridan Myers was fourth in discus with a distance of 72-10.

  • TENNIS: Boys' team defeats...

     LaRue County High School’s tennis teams played Bardstown Bethlehem March 19.

    The boys’ team won 5-0 with Ryan Abell, LaRue’s No. 1 singles player defeating Ezra Suertes 6-0, 6-0.

    Ryan Hornback defeated Adam Rogers, 6-1, 6-1; Tyler Skaggs defeated John Simms, 8-3.

    In No. 1 doubles, the team of Kyler Hart and Trevor Sanders defeated Suertes and Rogers.

    Alex Best and Preston Howell defeated Jessie Plouvier and Janzten Sivori, 6-1, 6-0.

     With only one senior on his LaRue County High School boys’ track team, first-year coach Orion Tucker is looking for hard work and positive attitudes to propel his Hawks toward this season’s objectives.

    “Our goal is to build a solid foundation, to improve on last year’s times, to try to surprise a few teams this year, to finish top five in the region, to send the team to state, and, if not, to send as many individuals we can,” said Tucker, a graduate of Kentucky State University who since 2006 has been employed at The Life Connection.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Hawks win season...

     The LaRue County Lady Hawks won their season opener March 14 with a 10-4 thrashing of Bardstown Bethlehem in eight innings.

    Junior Brigitte Skaggs went 2-for-5 with a double and five RBIs as the visiting Lady Hawks knocked off the Banshees.

    Bethlehem scored first, bringing in two runs in the bottom of the first inning. LaRue didn’t score until the third inning – but scored six in the final inning.

    Freshman Jill Hughes chipped in with two doubles and two RBIs, while junior Peyton Gardner had three singles and an RBI.
