  • General Butler to host Mudathlon

     General Butler State Resort Park will host its second Mudathlon – a 3-mile, 40-obstacle course seeking as much natural and muddy terrain as possible – on Saturday, May 11.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Hawks beat Grayson

    The third-ranked Louisville Mercy Jaguars aren’t an area team, but they claimed the unofficial area championship with a 3-0 showing against area teams Friday and Saturday in the 16-team TSOA Tournament at Meade-Olin Park in Brandenburg.

    Mercy earned a 3-2 win over Meade County in Saturday evening’s semifinals after beating No. 19 Central Hardin in Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals, 5-3. In pool play, Mercy no-hit LaRue County in five innings, 12-0 as the Lady Hawks committed five errors

    Thomas Hoppes, a fourth-grader at Hodgenville Elementary School and member of LaRue County Youth Wrestling, won the 2013 Kentucky USAW Folk Style Belt Series Intermediate Division Saturday at the Cobra Invitational. The USAW Belt Series consist of three tournaments over three weekends where youth from five different states competed for accumulative points in their divisions. Thomas accomplished this by winning every one of his matches by pins.

  • TRACK: Lady Hawks learn teamwork

     The strength of this year’s LaRue County High School girls’ track team likely lies in the athletes knowing that there is always room for improvement, according to coach Laura Kudrna.

    “None of the girls come out thinking they know it all or that they are the sole individual to win it all for the team,” said the fifth-grade teacher at Hodgenville Elementary School, in her third year as coach. “We all know that everyone contributes to the team, whether it’s an individual event, relay or field.”

  • BASEBALL: Hawks defeat Bardstown

     The LaRue County Hawks defeated Bardstown 12-11 March 19 in 10 innings.

    Junior Austin McDowell scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 10th, lifting the Hawks to their second straight win.

    McDowell, who went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs, stole second and third before scoring on Bardstown’s third wild pitch of the game. Senior Cole Hughes went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while eighth-grader Cameron Dawson doubled in a run.

  • Lady Hawks lose to 23-ranked...

     The Lady Hawks lost 8-5 March 19 to 23rd-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins.

    After the Lady Hawks put up a spirited rally, the homestanding Lady Bruins awoke from their sudden offensive slumber to subdue their 5th Region rival.

    The Lady Bruins’ final four hits came in their three-run fifth inning as Central Hardin topped the Lady Hawks.
