  • Kentucky hunters bag record...

    Kentucky’s spring turkey hunters set a new state record this year. Hunters telechecked 29,006 birds during the 23-day season, which ended May 10. This surpassed the previous record of 28,797 birds in 2006.

    LaRue County turkey hunters harvested 241 birds.

     “Despite the bad weather, turkey hunters are dedicated sportsmen and sportswomen,” said Karen Alexy, wildlife division director for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “They still got out there and made this the best season ever.”

  • Bullitt East wins Semi-State

    Bullitt East blanked Elizabethtown 6-0 Saturday to come from behind and win the best-of-three semi-state baseball series held at LaRue County High School.

    The win earned the Chargers a spot in the State Tournament and was the Chargers' 30th victory of the season.

    After losing game one 6-1 Monday, the 6th Region champions had to wait through a rainy week for the rematch.

    Bullitt East won the twice-delayed Game 2 by 8-4 score Friday afternoon at LCHS which set up Saturday's deciding contest.

  • LCHS coaches hold three-day...

    The LaRue County High School boys' basketball coaching staff will hold a youth basketball camp this week at the LCHS gym.

    The three-day programs begin Wednesday morning. First session is 9-11 a.m. for grades 1-4; second session is 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for grades 5-8. The grades refer to the class the students will be attending in August.

  • Registration open for Bluegrass...

    The largest sporting event in Kentucky has opened its online registration. The Get Healthy Kentucky Bluegrass State Games will host 31 sports and more than 1,500 athletes this year including cornhole, volleyball and bowling.

    The Get Healthy Kentucky Bluegrass State Games will take place in central Kentucky July 17-19 and July 24-26. The Celebration of Athletes will take place July 24 at Applebee’s Park in Lexington.

    The Mid-Kentucky Officials Association, which encompasses 20 schools in the 5th Region area, is looking for new officials for the 2009 season.

    Potential officials must be 18 years old and in good standing with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. Testing and training begins in June for the fall season.

  • Tryouts for freshman softball...

    Tryouts for the LaRue County High School freshman softball team will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Lady Hawk Field for girls entering sixth through eighth grade in the 2009-10 school year.

    Because of KHSAA regulations, ninth graders are not allowed to try out until Feb. 15.

  • Padgett places at state meet

    On the strength of Truman Padgett's performances, LaRue County recorded five points in the Class 2A Boys' State Track Meet held Friday and Saturday at the University of Louisville’s Owsley Brown Frazier Cardinal Park.

  • Hawks falter before district play

    (DELAYED)

    LaRue baseball coach Chris Price wanted to use the last week of the season to take momentum into the district tournament. But the Hawks struggled in their five-game stint defeating only Campbellsville.

    Price said LaRue struggled defensively at times and wanted to see better hitting.

    “We had a hard time fielding the ball this week and making routine plays,” Price said, “but we’ll be all right.”

    May 11, LaRue visited Campbellsville High School and was stunned in the seventh by a go ahead two run effort 4-3.

  • Volleyball team offers all-...

    The Lady Hawks volleyball team will host an all-skills camp for girls through eighth grade 8-11 a.m. June 8-9 at LaRue County High School.

    Registration is $40 and includes a T-shirt. Deadline to register is May 29.

    Pick up forms at Hodgenville Elementary, Abraham Lincoln Elementary and LaRue County Middle schools. Return forms to Coach Ben Schell at LCHS (358-2210) or Lisa DeWitt at LaRue Insurance (358-3101).
