  • Hawks win football season opener

    “... football is about emotion. And from the second half on, I could see emotion,” Coach Rodney Armes told his players as they knelt at midfield at the conclusion of Saturday night’s season opener while taking in their 30-12 victory over Campbellsville in the Forcht Bank Bowl in Campbellsville.

    Offensively, LaRue was led in rushing by Forcht Bank Bowl’s offensive player of the game, sophomore Drew Newberry, who pounded the gridiron for 122 yards rushing and 95 yards in receiving.

  • Softball team begins weight...

    Weightlifting is available for high school and middle school girls serious about joining the high school softball team. Weightlifting is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sept. 29. Do not enter until coaches have checked to make sure the football team is out of the building. The coach requests athletes wear appropriate clothing, which means no mini shorts or sports bras.

    A new schedule will be given after fall break.

  • Football Boosters plan special...

    The LaRue County Pigskin Classic, sponsored by Nall’s Specialized Hauling, will be played 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at LCHS. The Hawks will play the North Hardin Trojans. Tickets cost $7.

    The LCHS Football Boosters will sell spirit items, booster memberships and reserved seating at the Pigskin Classic game.

    A Sponge Bob Bouncing House also will be at the game for children. All proceeds from the bounce house go toward the purchase of new helmets for the team.

  • Eastridge has low score at Fort...

    Despite not having enough girls playing for a team score, LaRue County High School junior Hillary Eastridge claimed low-score honors Thursday over each of her opponents from Fort Knox.

    On the par-36 front nine of Lindsey Golf Course, Eastridge stroked a 47. Fort Knox’s Karen Whitaker was low for the Lady Eagles with a 51.

    “That course plays tough, and Hillary played it really well,” said LaRue’s head coach Rip Collins.

    Boys

    Knox’s boys, led by Joey Hetrick’s 48, topped the Hawks 211-230 Thursday at Lyndsey.

  • Berea tennis champ

    Michelle Seymour won the girls 16 and under division in the Berea Mountain Tennis Tournament this past weekend by defeating Bailee Freeman from Corbin 7-6 (8-6) 6-2.

  • LaRue wins football opener

    The first game started slow for LaRue County's varsity football team Saturday. But the Hawks finished strong to record a 30-12 win Saturday night over host Campbellsville.

    Drew Newberry rushed for 122 yards and caught four passes for 95 to spark the Hawk offense.

    After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles built on a LaRue turnover to score first. The Hawks answered on their next drive to tie the score at 6-6, which stood at halftime. The Hawks dominated the second half for the victory.

  • Cross country season begins today

    Running cross country is a grueling and demanding sport. Imagine yourself running five kilometers or 3.1 miles flat out, as hard as you can run. Not many people want to try it.

    LaRue County High School cross country coach Josh Henderson has assembled a team with a few seasoned athletes and several newcomers this season.

    Seniors Ryan Durbin, who competed at State last year, Truman Padgett and Alex Wood are expected to provide leadership. Also returning is junior Spencer Reed.
