    With the start of the season, expectations were high at the LaRue County wrestling room. This was the season the wrestlers, fans and coaches pinpointed as the year the Hawks would finally break through and win their elusive first state tournament title.

    LaRue County senior sisters Lyndsay and Valerie Whitlock celebrated their 18th birthdays Saturday and ensured their teammates weren’t left out of the festivities in Hodgenville.

    On Friday, the homestanding Lady Hawks edged the Hart County Lady Raiders, 53-50. On Saturday, the Lady Hawks were victorious over the visiting John Hardin Lady Bulldogs, 61-44.

  • BOYS BASKETBALL: Hawks defeat...

    The LaRue County Hawks and the Hart County Raiders boys’ basketball teams played to a packed house Friday night at Hodgenville. The Raiders were short-handed as they had seven players suspended due to an altercation in a game at Warren East High School on Jan. 10. The Hawks won easily 77-43.
    The Hawks started out cold in the first quarter, missing several easy shots but Kyle Sheeran put the Hawks up 13-11 on consecutive, old-fashioned three-point plays, scoring two baskets and getting fouled on each one.

    LaRue County Elementary School wrestlers competed Jan. 16 at the Cobra Wrestling Tournament at Nelson County High School. No team score was kept.

  • KHSAA Board of Control seeks...

    The Kentucky Department of Education is seeking an individual to serve on the Kentucky High School Athletics Association Board of Control to fill a vacant position. 

    The KHSAA is the Kentucky Board of Education’s designee to manage statewide interscholastic athletic programs. The Board of Control supervises KHSAA, establishes staff salaries, sets goals for the association and has the authority to set rules and review proposed changes to the KHSAA constitution and bylaws.

    Heading into the weekend's regional duals at John Hardin High School, the LaRue County Mat Hawks were 3-0 against regional opponents and long-time head coach Gary Canter wanted his team to send a message to the rest of the region.

    The message was clear. The Mat Hawks ran their regional record to 7-0 dominating every team they have faced to date.

    “A team can set a tone at one at these regional duals that will resonate into the regional tournament,” said Canter.

    For the fourth time this season, the LaRue County Lady Hawks found a way to win at home.

    The Lady Hawks overcame early difficulties to notch a 47-40 victory over the visiting Green County Lady Dragons on Friday night.

    The win marked the first time the Lady Hawks (12-2 overall, 2-1 in district) have defeated the Lady Dragons (2-12, 1-4) in Hodgenville since the 2005-06 season. The victory also helps the program remain in contention for the No. 1 seed in the 18th District.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks defeat Green,...

    The LaRue County Hawks Basketball Team defeated two Fifth Region rivals last week, beating Campbellsville High School 63-58 and Green County High School 59-44.

    The Hawks improved their record to 9-3 with a 63-58 victory over rival Campbellsville High School Jan. 4.

  • Bryan accepts position as sports...

    Kendrick Bryan has accepted a position as sports correspondent with The LaRue County Herald News.

    He will be covering the Lady Hawks basketball games for the rest of the season and writing sports features.

    He is a substitute teacher for LaRue County Schools and has served as assistant volleyball coach for the Lady Hawks.

    He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2009 and is working on a degree in school counseling. He serves as executive vice president and student body vice president at WKU.
