  • WRESTLING: Mat Hawks take 8th at...

    The LaRue County Mat Hawks finished eighth Saturday at the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association State Duals in the small schools division at Montgomery County.

    The Hawks defeated Caldwell County, 40-24, in their first round.

    The Hawks lost to Wayne County, 46-30; to North Oldham, 50-23; and Louisville Doss, 47-24.

    Information about the Caldwell match is unavailable.

  • Lady Hawks defeat Marion

    Senior wing Ivy Brown helped the 15th-ranked LaRue County Lady Hawks get a little bit of revenge on 5th Region foe Marion County on Saturday.

    Brown had 26 points, 13 rebounds, five steals, five blocks and two assists as homestanding LaRue County beat the Lady Knights, 58-48 in a rematch from last season’s region final won by Marion County.

    Junior guard Alexis Brewer added 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while sophomore guard Delany Eastridge had seven points and five rebounds.

  • BASKETBALL: Ladies fall in LIT

    LOUISVILLE— Three was the magic number Friday night for the Louisville Sacred Heart Valkyries.

    Scoring 21 points from the 3-point arc, the eighth-ranked Valkyries pulled away from the 15th-ranked LaRue County Lady Hawks, 70-59 in the quarterfinals of the Louisville Invitational Tournament at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.

    “Guarding the 3 was definitely our biggest weakness tonight, and it has been all season,” said LaRue County senior guard Ivy Brown. “We have to close out faster and know where their shooters are.”

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks topple North...

    As his team huddled around him after the first quarter, LaRue County coach Paul Childress reminded the Hawks there was plenty of time left to make a run Saturday afternoon against the North Oldham Mustangs.

    Trailing by 14 at the time, the Hawks methodically chipped away. After taking its first lead in the fourth quarter, LaRue County won going away, 66-52 in the Nathan McCurry Classic at John Hardin.

    After sitting at the start of the game, junior guard Alexis Brewer scored 21 of her 23 points in a span of 11:50 in the first half to spark the Lady Hawks to an 82-32 win Thursday against the Central Hardin Lady Bruins.
