  • Tesha Paysen honored for...

    The University of Louisville had an impressive 246 student-athletes named to the 2011-12 Big East All-Academic Team, the conference announced Friday from Providence, R.I.

    Among those honored was former LaRue County High School player Tesha Paysen for women’s softball. Paysen is a senior at UL.

    The Cardinals had the fourth-most selections in the conference, checking in behind Georgetown (340), Notre Dame (321) and Villanova (314).

  • Youth football league holds...

     LaRue County Youth Football will hold registration 10 a.m.-noon Aug. 4 and 11; and 6-8 p.m. Aug. 16 in the LaRue County High School cafeteria. Players should attend registration for fitting. Fee is $55 for tackle and $30 for flag.

    The tackle league has three divisions (11-12; 9-10; and 7-8) with playing age determined by age on Aug. 1. The flag league will consist of children in kindergarten through first grade.

  • Reed, Williams tops at Magnolia...

     The Magnolia 5K, the fourth installment in the Kentucky State Parks Race Series was held July 14 at Rough River Dam State Resort Park in Falls of Rough. Described by recreation supervisor Geoff Roberts as a “great success,” the race boasted 144 runners and walkers.

    Top male and female finishers were crowned in 13 age categories with Blake Williams and Amarah Reed taking top overall honors.

     The E’town ACES placed second in Pool B of the 18 Intermediate division of the USTA KY State Jr. Team Tennis Finals. They edged the Owensboro team by two games, 76-74, in pool play.      Two Hardin County-area teams captured USTA Kentucky Jr. Team Tennis State championships last weekend in Louisville. Both teams qualify to advance to the nine-state USTA Southern Sectional JTT tournament in Auburn Ala., on Aug. 17-20.

     Two Hardin County-area teams captured USTA Kentucky Jr. Team Tennis State championships last weekend in Louisville. Both teams qualify to advance to the nine-state USTA Southern Sectional JTT tournament in Auburn Ala., on Aug. 17-20. 

    The E’town Thunder won the 13-team 18 Intermediate division by dominating the five-team Pool A and then adding semifinal and finals victories. From left, Bilal Ahmed, Reza Haider, Natalie Fiepke, Jenna Mullen, Ann Lauren Fiepke, Tyler Edlin, Michelle Seymour, Tad Skaggs and Alex Spalding.

  • Seymour, Abell win USTA state...

     Two LaRue County athletes won state championships last weekend in the USTA Kentucky State Jr. Team Tennis Finals. 

    Michelle Seymour, a recent LaRue County High School graduate, went undefeated in doubles play for the Elizabethtown Thunder as they dominated the 18 Intermediate Division. 

    Ryan Abell, LCHS senior, was also undefeated in doubles play for the Novak team which won the 18 Advanced Division.

    Advanced and intermediate divisions are based on ranking.

    Swimming pool open

    The LaRue County Swimming Pool will operate through Aug. 4. Hours are 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. It is closed on Monday. Admission is $4 for children 11 and under; $6 for ages 12 and over. The pool is available for parties 6-9 p.m. for a cost of $175, an increase of $25 from last season.
