  • State Park Race Series begins in...

     The ninth annual Kentucky State Park Race Series will start April 20 with the Goose Creek 5K at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville.

    The race series consists of 5K races at five Kentucky State Parks. Runners of all ages can participate in individual races or sign up to run in all five for the overall championship. Points and awards will be given for male and female runners in the series as well as those taking part in single races. These events are also open to walkers. Children, strollers and pets on a leash are welcome.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks defeat Nelson

     The LaRue County Hawks whipped Nelson County Feb. 5, 71-41.

    Senior guard Kelton Ford nearly outscored the homestanding Cardinals by himself, finishing with 34 points as the Hawks won for the fifth time in six games.

    Ford almost had a quadruple-double as he had 10 steals, eight rebounds and seven assists, while junior forward Tyler Howell added 13 points and eight rebounds.

    Junior forward Kody Key-Close scored nine points, while senior guard Dustin Coulter and sophomore forward Caleb Sheffer each scored five.

  • Lady Hawks come from behind to...

     Sophomore guard Alexis Brewer scored 23 points and junior guard Ivy Brown added a double-double Feb. 5 as the visiting Lady Hawks knocked off Nelson County – one of the top teams in the 5th Region.

    The Lady Hawks won, 58-55, despite a 32-26 deficit at halftime.

    “We did a good job of playing from behind and not panicking,” said Coach Travis Wootton. “We have played a tough schedule so we were prepared for this game. I think it was their first home loss this year. It was a good bounce back game for us.”

     Madeline Meredith, already an accomplished swimmer at age 8, has set a new state record.

  • Goldwing Riders to meet

     The Goldwing Road Riders Association will meet 4 p.m. Feb. 10 at Golden Corral Restaurant, 1835 N. Dixie Hwy., Elizabethtown.

    Gold Wing or Valkyrie motorcycle owners are invited. The group meets on the second Sunday of each month at Golden Corral. 

    Meal begins at 4 p.m.; meeting is at 5 p.m.
