  • BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks lose to...

With scouts in Hodgenville on Dec. 11 from three NCAA Division-I schools and one NAIA program looking for future stars, the area’s top prep girls’ player of the present gave them plenty of reasons to consider her.

North Hardin senior forward Chanel Roberts, the reigning Area Player of the Year, had game-highs in points (28) and rebounds (15) and three assists as the visiting Lady Trojans ended the LaRue County Lady Hawks’ unbeaten start, 62-48.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks lose to North

LaRue County’s little man kept the Hawks in the game Dec. 11, while the North Hardin Trojans’ big man kept them undefeated.

Tyler Landry, North Hardin’s 6-foot-6 senior center, posted yet another double to help the visiting Trojans overcome a huge night from LaRue County senior point guard Kelton Ford in a 60-51 win over their 5th Region rival.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks hold off Hart

Coach Paul Childress isn’t going to stand for any more near-epic collapses.

He’s making sure the LaRue County Hawks understand that, too.

LaRue County hung on for a 61-57 victory Friday at 18th District rival Hart County, not making a field goal for the final 6:36 and nearly letting a 21-point lead slip away.

Childress was so frustrated with the Hawks’ fourth quarter performance that he spent 30 minutes talking to them in the locker room and made all players ride the bus home afterward.

  • Lady Hawks outheart Hart

Ivy Brown was on a mission Friday night and the LaRue County junior forward sent the Hart County Lady Raiders a message.
She’s not letting them get in the way of the Lady Hawks’ 18th District title quest this season.
Brown scored 17 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter as visiting LaRue County routed the Lady Raiders, 74-39.
Hart County ended the Lady Hawks’ 2011-12 season, knocking them out in the district tournament semifinals. Brown got some revenge Friday – and hopes for more again down the road.

  • Book chronicles high school...

A book chronicling the history of Kentucky high school basketball has been compiled by Jeff Bridgeman.

Bridgeman spent several years researching “every team, every school, every year from the beginning of high school basketball in Kentucky through 2012.” He said he made thousands of phone calls to people in every county and combed through records of the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches and the Kentucky High School Athletics Association.

  • Gauchos player has local ties

Kara Sherrard, granddaughter of Vivian Sherrard of Hodgenville, is a member of the University of California Santa Barbara volleyball team.

In 2011, as a sophomore, Kara appeared in all 31 of the Gauchos’ games, finishing third on the team in kills with a total of 323. She had 43 blocks and earned double-doubles in 13 games.

She was named to the All-Big West Freshman Team in her first year of college play.
