  • Sheeran to play in All-Star game

    Kyle Sheeran, 6’ senior guard from the LaRue County Hawks boys basketball team, has been selected to play in the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches East-West All Star game at Transylvania University. The game will be played 5 p.m. Saturday, March 17.
    The annual All-Star game is played between the semi-finals and finals of the Boys Sweet Sixteen tournament in Lexington. The KABC selects the top two players out of each region. The All-Star game will match up the top seniors from around Kentucky in a showcase for fans and college coaches.

  • Allen tapped as head wrestling...

    Todd Allen, a 2001 LaRue County High School graduate and State Wrestling Champion his senior year, has been named head wrestling coach at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.
    Allen spent 2006-08 as a graduate assistant with the Bulldog program, helping Corey Bleaken, Theo Dotson and Jordan Powers earn All-America honors at the NAIA Championships.
     “Being a wrestling coach has been a dream job for me since I graduated college and Cumberland is a great school in a great location … I’m truly blessed,” Allen wrote in an email.

  • Lady Hawks prepare for another...

    Despite a 14-22 record, LaRue County High School’s Lady Hawks softball squad powered through post-season play, finishing last season as Fifth Region Tournament runner-up.
    With 12 players returning this season Coach Aaron Howell is looking forward to continued strong play, though he admits most of his athletes are underclassmen.
    “Our team could best be described as young, which is also our weakness,” said the nine-year teaching veteran in his second year at the Lady Hawks’ helm.

  • ‘Women in Basketball’ exhibit...

    The Kentucky Historical Society will reopen its history campus to walk-in visitors on Saturday, March 10, with a new exhibition, “Women in Basketball,” in the Keeneland Changing Exhibits Gallery at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. The KHS history campus also includes the Old State Capitol and the Kentucky Military History Museum at the State Arsenal.
