  • Hawks lost two close games

The LCHS Hawks varsity basketball team lost two close games last week.

The Hawks lost to the Caverna Colonels at home last Friday 65-62.

Colonel guard Mason Faulkner is the leading scorer in Kentucky averaging 42 points a game. The Hawks were able to hold him to 32 points, but that wouldn’t be enough to win the game.

  • Living up to the expectations

Very rarely do players come along who are identified as a gym rat, which is a player who basically grows up in the gym playing basketball. For junior Derek Goode, that label can be easily placed upon the first year player at LaRue County High School.

  • Refusing to be complacent

Whether on a cross country course, wrestling mat, or in the classroom, 10-year-old Abraham Lincoln Elementary School fifth-grade student Gabe Fortier has the same goal, to be better than he was the previous day.

“My parents say that there is always going to be somebody out there that’s better than you, so to get better at anything you need to show up and do the work,” said the son of Matt and Robina Fortier of Hodgenville. “My coaches have been great at pushing me for my best effort too.”

  • Heath is Lady Hawks blue collar...

Anyone who shows up at a basketball game rarely has trouble picking out the player who provides the most scoring, assists and rebounds for the team. Those players usually are the ones who find themselves getting the attention from other teams, the media, and fans. For junior Airyl Heath, that suits her just fine.
