The LaRue County Hawks almost pulled off an incredible comeback Friday night, but instead they experienced tremendous heartbreak.

  • Mat Hawks win 2 on Senior Night

The two seniors on LaRue County High School’s wrestling team were honored Wednesday, Feb. 4, at their final home match.

Noah King, the team’s 138-pounder, and heavyweight Charlie Roarx, made the most of their matches in Hawk gym by pinning their opponents.

“It felt incredible to stand in front of my school as a senior with a cheering crowd,” said Roarx, who has battled injuries much of his career. He made short work of Central Hardin’s Tyler Bevars, pinning him in a minute.

    King pinned Central’s Austin Hall.

  • Last shot for Sheffer

For LaRue County senior Caleb Sheffer, basketball isn’t just a game. It’s been a part of his life since childhood. As long as he can remember, Sheffer has been playing basketball, either on little league teams or school teams.

A longtime player, Sheffer’s love for the game is what spurs him on.

“[I’ve] always enjoyed it,” he said, laughing. “It’s a fun thing to play.”

Sheffer also played football for the first time this year. As is the norm, he enjoyed the challenge of learning a new sport.
