  • BASKETBALL: Hawks fall to Bullitt

    BULLITT CENTRAL 55, LARUE COUNTY 42. The homestanding Hawks (11-9) were held to 31.8 percent from the field as they lost their third straight and for the fourth time in five games.

    Senior forward Caleb Sheffer led LaRue County with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman guard Kane Harris added eight points and four assists.

    Sophomore guard Cameron Dawson chipped in with seven points and six rebounds for the Hawks, who were 0-for-11 from the 3-point arc and 14-of-44 overall.


  • Free parking available for Lady...

    Fans can enjoy free parking at E.A. Diddle Arena for the remainder of the Lady Topper Basketball season.

    Free parking will be available in parking structure 1 (PS1) and in the upper floors of parking structure 2 (PS2) for the remainder of the 2014-15 season. The first floor of PS2 will continue to be reserved for HAF members. Fans can contact the HAF office at 270-745-5321 for more information on Hilltopper Athletic Foundation memberships. Individuals in the varsity level ($100) receive reserved parking in PS2 for Lady Topper Basketball games.

  • Two Mat Hawks place in region

    Four LaRue County Middle School Mat Hawks competed in the Kentucky State Wrestling Association Middle School Region Tournament in Danville.

    Going up against some of the best competition in the state, the Mat Hawks had two individuals place in the tournament.

    Thomas Hoppes placed third overall advancing to the KSWA State Tournament which will be Saturday in Mount Sterling.

    Tucker Shelton will be an alternate to the state tournament.

    Other Mat Hawks competing were Chase Baker and Thomas Boone. 

  • Lady Hawks defeated by Caverna

    The visiting Lady Hawks (8-13, 2-3 18th District) were blown out for the second time this season by the Lady Colonels, losing 65-34.

    Senior forward Alyson Yingling paced LaRue County with 17 points and seven rebounds, while freshman guard Presley Brown added six points and six rebounds.

    Junior guard Delany Eastridge scored five.

  • Hardin named girls’ track and...

    Since resigning from LaRue County following the 2006 season, Jamie Hardin has never been far from the sport of track & field.

    She became an official with the KHSAA and U.S. Track & Field and could often be found in the press box as a HY-TEK operator scoring meets.

    Soon, though, Hardin wondered if getting back into coaching could happen.

    An opportunity arose earlier this month at LaRue County. Laura Kudrna stepped down as girls’ track coach in July, and the school needed to find someone before this season begins.

  • Roarx won’t give up: “Roanoke...

    By all accounts, including his own, Charlie Roarx probably should have quit wrestling when he was a freshman.

    But the LaRue County senior heavyweight, who’s affectionately known as the “Roanoke Special” by teammates and coaches alike, couldn’t stay away.

    His injuries have ranged from breaking his neck as a freshman, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his right knee as a junior and hurting the lateral collateral ligament in the same knee as a senior.

    LCYSA sign ups

    The LaRue County Youth Soccer Association will have in-person sign ups 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 7 at the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School cafeteria. Birth certificates must be on file and all fees paid before the child will be added to a roster. There are mixed teams for U4, U6 and U8. There will be mixed and girls’ teams for U10, U12 and U14 (depending on sign ups). U16 and U18 will be mixed teams. There will be a $20 late fee for Feb. 7 registration.   • LCMS Basketball Tournament...

    Seventh-grade (overall record 12-8)

    LaRue 27, Metcalfe 23

    Leading scorers: Matthew Lewis 8, Jacob Sandidge 6

    In the first round of the Conference tournament, the seventh-grade Hawks jumped out to a 17-3 lead early in the second quarter. They survived a comeback bid by Metcalfe County in the second half to hold on and win the game.

  • Mat Hawks take 8th at State Duals

    The LaRue County Mat Hawks competed Saturday, Jan. 31 in the 24th annual Kentucky State Dual Championship at the Union County Fairgrounds.

    The team took eighth in the small school division, out of the 24-top teams in the state.

    The Hawks were 1-3 on the day, defeating Fort Campbell, 42-30, and falling to Union County, Scott County and Louisville Doss.

     The LaRue County Hawks defeated the Glasgow Scotties, 68-47, on Jan. 27.

    LaRue started the game on a 12-3 run. The teams were close at halftime with the visiting Hawks ahead 29-27. The Hawks outscored Glasgow 39-20 in the second half.

    Sophomore guard Cameron Dawson hit six 3s out of 10 attempts, and scored 26 points for the Hawks, followed by senior forward Caleb Sheffer with 13 points and seven rebounds.
