     Ten LaRue County Mat Hawks represented their school March 10-11 at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s State Wrestling Tournament.

    The team was tied in 25th place at the end of the first day’s wrestling, and fell to 33rd by tournament’s end.

      Tara Wooden, veteran cheerleader coach at LaRue County High School, was surprised when she found out that she had been named as the first female to be inducted into the Fifth Regional Athletic Directors’ Hall of Fame.

  • Erin Boley named Gatorade Player...

    Erin Boley of Hodgenville, a standout player for Elizabethtown High School’s basketball team, was named the Gatorade Kentucky Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year on Thursday, becoming just the third player in the state to win the award in back-to-back seasons.
    “It’s a tremendous honor,” Elizabethtown coach Tim Mudd said Thursday. “We’re really proud of her. All her teammates were happy for her when I told them today. She’s very deserving. She’s a great basketball player because of her work ethic.”

    BOWLING GREEN — Elizabethtown’s dream season turned into a nightmare Friday afternoon.

    The Lady Panthers rallied from an eight-point deficit to take a 40-39 lead with 22.1 seconds left on senior center Reauna Cleaver’s old-fashioned three-point play in the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls’ Sweet 16 State Tournament.

  • Paden named Scholar-Athlete

    Nick Paden was one of three Cumberland University wrestlers named Mid-South Conference Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the league office before the NAIA Championships in Topeka, Kansas.

    Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.25 grade-point-average to be eligible for the award.

    Paden has a perfect 4.0 GPA in Mathematics.

    The 2012 graduate of LaRue County High School is the son of Eddie and Deana Paden of Hodgenville.

    The university is located in Lebanon, Tennessee.
