  • The benefits of summer baseball

    The Hawks Baseball team saw their season come to a screeching halt a few weeks ago with a loss to Central Hardin in the semi-finals of the 5th region tournament. Three of the Hawks players (Colby Skaggs, John Selman, and Chandler Lynn) saw their high school baseball careers come to an end. However, for five players, the opportunities to improve and hone their skills with other travel teams will be available over the next several weeks.

    Pickleball

    Pickleball is being played at 5:30 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays at the Board of Education gym on College Street. Pickleball is free to anyone interested in learning the sport, a combination of tennis and ping-pong. All equipment provided.

    LaRue County Park and Recreation Board

    The LaRue County Park and Recreation Board meets 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month at the Park. For more information, call Eric DeVary at 270-358-8386.

    Opportunities for athletes to participate in year around activities have increased over the years. LaRue County High School has several athletes who are competing and honing their skills in the offseason.

  • Hawks lose to Central Hardin 9-1

    The LaRue County Hawks varsity baseball team lost to Central Hardin 9-1 in the semi-final of the fifth regional tournament last Tuesday.

    The beginning of the game looked promising for the Hawks as they led early in the first inning after Dalton Skaggs singled, Cameron Dawson walked and Matheo Lynn had an RBI fielders choice making the score 1-0.

  • Hawks win district tourney

    The LaRue County Hawks baseball team beat Green County on a mercy rule last Tuesday 11-1, keeping the 18th district baseball championship at LCHS for the second consecutive season.

    The Hawks simply ran away with Green County as they already led 8-1 in the fourth inning and then put the game away in the fifth as the Hawks loaded the bases after Chandler Lynn singled, Colby Skaggs walked and Cameron Dawson walked. Derek Goode then hit a two run singled to end the game on a mercy rule.

    Coaches and players on the LaRue County Hawks varsity baseball team recently picked up several regional awards.

    Head Coach Eric Allen was named 5th region coach of the year and assistant coach Adam Lindsey was named 5th region assistant coach of the year.

    Cameron Dawson was named to the Junior East-West All-Star game and Jaxon Boley was named to the Sophomore East-West All-Star game.

  • LCHS track team compete at state

    The LaRue County Hawks high school track team competed at the KHSAA track meet in Lexington last Friday.

    The highlight of the meet for the Hawks was Kaylem Murphy (10th grade) and partner athlete Aaron Sowder (9th grad) who won the 100 meter and finished second in the 400 meter events for unified athletes, bringing home the only medals from the event.

    Senior Randy Young, who was Valedictorian of the LCHS class of 2016 and opted to attend the meet instead of graduation, ran in his first state track meet in the 200 meter.
