  • Hawks back to winning

    The LCHS Hawks varsity baseball team got back to their winning ways after previously losing three straight games.

    The Hawks beat John Hardin 12-5 Monday night. After being down five runs, Colby Skaggs provided the spark that the Hawks needed as he hit his first homerun of his career and finished 3-4 with five RBIs to lead the Hawks to a blowout victory. The Hawks scored eight runs on eight hits, taking a 12-5 lead in the sixth inning.

    The Hawks also rallied back to beat Central Hardin 11-7 last Saturday.

  • Lady Hawks improve win column

    The LaRue County High School Lady Hawks softball team went 2-1 this past week to improve their record to 12-19 on the season.

    The Lady Hawks beat Campbellsville last Wednesday 7-3. Presley Brown went 2-4 with two RBIs, Kaitlyn Warnshuis also went 2-4 with three RBIs and Kourtnee Davenport finished 204 with an RBI. Pitcher Sarah Jo Calhoun was dominant in the circle as she pitched all seven innings and only allowed three runs on five hits, had four strikeouts and walked one.

    To persevere is to persist in anything undertaken, maintaining a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement, and continue steadfastly. It is safe to say that the LaRue County Lady Hawks softball team has persevered throughout the 2016 season. The team is currently 12-18, and a #4 seed in the district tournament which LaRue County will host.

    In 2003 the LaRue County Hawks dominated their competition before falling in the KHSAA state semi-final game 5-7 against powerhouse Louisville Male. If the 2016 Hawks Baseball team is going to make a similar run in the post season they will have to get by the two teams that have dominated the region tournament since 2003, which is Elizabethtown and Central Hardin respectively.

    The LaRue County Hawks varsity baseball team secured the number one seed in the 18th district tournament with an impressive 12-0 win over their district foe Green County last Tuesday.

    The Green County win also guaranteed the Hawks a spot in the 5th region tournament.

    The Hawks bats were hot all night as Cameron Dawson hit a grounder to bring Dalton Skaggs to home plate and Derek Goode had an RBI double to bring in Dawson for an early 2-0 lead.

  • Lady Hawks pick up two wins

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks varsity softball team picked up picked up two wins this past week as they beat Breckingridge County 13-2 and John Hardin 7-3.

    The Lady Hawks beat John Hardin on Monday 7-3 after seven innings of play. They won behind Chasity Bryant, who went 2-3 with a singles in the fifth and seventh innings.

    Pitcher Kellee Cundiff was in control in the circle. In four innings, she only gave up two hits, allowed one earned run, one walk and seven strikeouts. Lady Hawks closer Sarah Jo Calhoun put away the final nine outs to record the save.

    The Class 2A region 2 meet will take place May 17 at Elizabethtown High School.

    Over the past couple of years the LaRue County boys track team has always been on the outside looking in. But this year, according to Head Coach Jobie Hooper “if we have a strong performance we could have a top 5 finish.” Below is a breakdown of the team best for each category.
