  • NASCAR greats visit Toyota plant

     In theory, both groups do the same thing — produce and drive industry leading Toyota Camrys.

    But the scope is drastically different, and that’s what captured the imagination of drivers, owners and other members of Toyota’s NASCAR teams on Wednesday when they got a unique look at the production at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky.

  • Not eligible for a license, 13-year-old enjoys racing

    Chance Sheldon is a 13-year-old 8th grader at LaRue County Middle School. He enjoys sports and video games and all the other things a 13 year-old boy would. Sheldon prefers Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Matt Kenseth, Xbox to Playstation and Battlefield 3 to Call of Duty. The difference between Sheldon and most 13 year-olds is he also enjoys drag racing, at 56 mph, in junior rail cars, against guys with actual drivers licenses.

  • Motorsports Hall of Fame to induct several Aug. 11

    The Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony will take place Aug. 11 at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green.

    The ceremony, the hall's fifth annual such event, will begin at 3 p.m. eastern time.

    Members of the 2012 class are:

    • Allan and Donald Barker of Louisville, Sports Car Club of America road racing champions.

    • Collings Downes Sr. and Jr. of Louisville, APBA and NHRA champions.

    • Butch Krieger of Louisville, drag racing and tractor pull announcer.

  • Kentucky State Park Race Series to begin in April

    The 8th Annual Kentucky State Park Race Series, including a 5K family fun walk, will start April 14 with the Goose Creek 5K at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
    Runners of all ages can take part in all five races to capture the overall championship based on a point system. Additional dates and races are:
    May 12 – Spring Hoot 5K at Barren River State Resort Park near Glasgow;
    June 9 – Possum Ridge 5K at Taylorsville Lake State Park at Taylorsville;

  • Local drivers honored at Bluegrass Speedway

    Several drivers were honored at Saturday’s awards celebration at Bluegrass Speedway. The top 10 in each division received plaques.
    Track promoters David and Anita Ferrell received the STARS Midwest Dirt Racing League Promoter of the Year Award. The Ferrells announced they will not return as promoters next season. They’ve spent 12 seasons at the track.
