  • PHOTO: Smith named to Academic All-State

     Megan Smith, a recent graduate of LaRue County High School, was named to first-team Academic All-State by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association for the second year. Smith played second base and shortstop for the Lady Hawks. In order to be considered, players must appear in at least 50 percent of their teams' varsity games. Only juniors and seniors are eligible. Based on a 4.0 grade-point average, the breakdown is 3.75 to 4.0 for the first team, 3.50 to 3.74 for the second team and 3.25 to 3.49 for honorable mentions.

  • 5TH REGION BASEBALL: Hawks fall 4-2 to Central Hardin

    The LaRue County Hawks ended their season as region runners-up after losing 4-2 Saturday to the Central Hardin Bruins.

    Senior Derek Westerfield launched a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Bruins to victory over the Hawks in the 5th Region Baseball Tournament championship at Elizabethtown’s Ron Myers Field.

  • BASEBALL: Hawks are region runners-up

    The LaRue County Hawks lost the championship round of the 5th Region Baseball Tournament 4-2 to the Central Hardin Bruins.
    Central's Derek Westerfield hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to take the lead.

    The game, postponed twice due to inclement weather, was played Saturday in Elizabethtown.

  • BASEBALL: Region tournament postponed to Saturday

    The 5th Region Baseball Tournament, plagued by weather issues this week, now will have its championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ron Myers Field at Elizabethtown High School.

    Defending region champion Central Hardin (30-9) is facing LaRue County (29-9) in the final. The game started Thursday night and was scoreless with one out in the top of the second inning when lightning and rain hit. The game will be picked up Saturday where it left off.

    Play was postponed Tuesday as well. The tournament originally was scheduled to end Wednesday night.

  • BASEBALL: Region Tournament postponed until Friday

    Mother Nature has intervened once again in the 5th Region Baseball Tournament.

    After rains forced the semifinals to be postponed a day Tuesday, heavy storms Thursday forced the championship game between Central Hardin and LaRue County to be called in the second inning. The game will be picked up where it left off at 6:30 p.m. today at Elizabethtown’s Ron Myers Field.

  • REGION BASEBALL: Hawks defeat Adair

    The LaRue County Hawks punched their ticket emphatically to the 5th Region Baseball Tournament championship Wednesday night.

    The Hawks used an opportunistic offense and an outstanding pitching performance by senior Wesley Kessinger to cruise to an 11-1 mercy-rule victory over the Adair County Indians in the early semifinal at Elizabethtown's Ron Myers Field.
