  • Hawks knock Nelson 38-24, prepare for homecoming

LaRue County’s special teams didn’t let the Hawks down Friday night.
After allowing a kick return for a touchdown in consecutive losses to Green County and Spencer County, the Hawks finally had a play go their way against visiting Nelson County.
Senior Cody Thompson returned a kickoff 93 yards for a score and added three rushing touchdowns to spark the Hawks to a 38-24 win over Nelson County, dropping the Cardinals to 0-5 for the first time since the team went 0-10 in Bill Mason’s final season in 2005.

  • FOOTBALL: Thompson carries Hawks to win over Nelson

Cody Thompson put the LaRue County Hawks on his back Friday and carried them to a much-needed win.

Thompson accounted for more than 250 all-purpose yards and scored four touchdowns to lead the host Hawks to a 38-24 win over the Nelson County Cardinals at Hawk Field.

Thompson rushed for a game-high 150 yards and three scores on 27 carries and returned two kicks for 113 yards and another touchdown to help the Hawks (2-3) snap a two-game losing streak and extend the Cardinals’ skid to five.

  • Hawks ruin Hart’s senior night

It was a cool and misting night that the LaRue County High School boys soccer team met the Raiders of Hart County on the Raider football field. This was a first as no soccer team had ever played on this field.

Volleyball tournament host LaRue County went 2-3 Saturday in the Abraham Slam Jam.

  • Hawks defeat Cougars 9-0

  • Hawks lose to Spencer by 1

LaRue County coach Rodney Armes deemed it probably the most embarrassing loss of his 16-year career.
The Hawks’ special teams’ mental and coaching mistakes cost them and left the team reeling Friday night.
Host Spencer County scored two touchdowns off LaRue County special teams’ mistakes and stopped senior halfback Drew Newberry’s conversion run attempt with 3:58 left to hang on for a 21-20 victory.

  • Hawks defeat Louisville Southern

Usually hard work and determination pays big dividends for any struggling team. For the LaRue County High School boys soccer team, that was not the case.
Five weeks of practice in brutal summer heat gave these young Hawks confidence and a strong, competitive spirit.
During the first game against North Bullitt, aggressive play and youthful mistakes resulted in a 4-0 loss. Take away two free kicks and a penalty kick and the result is a hard-fought contest between two equal combatants.
