  • BASKETBALL: Hawks hammer Metcalfe

     LaRue County junior Kelton Ford scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures and the host Hawks hit 14 3-pointers as they rolled to a 103-37 win over Metcalfe County in the National Guard Holiday Classic Dec. 27.

    Ford, who hit three 3s, also had four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Junior Gabe Shirley added 19 points, hitting three of four 3-point attempts, three steals, three rebounds and two assists; while senior Kyle Sheeran had 18 points, eight assists and two steals. Sheeran hit 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks compete in Holiday Classic

     The LaRue County High School Hawks spent part of their winter break competing in the Kentucky Fried Chicken Holiday Classic at McCreary Central.

    LARUE COUNTY 65, LINCOLN COUNTY 56.

    Senior Kyle Sheeran scored 21 points and junior Kelton Ford had 17 as the Hawks (6-0) rallied to knock off the Patriots Dec. 20.

    LaRue County outscored Lincoln County, 26-15 in the fourth quarter.

  • Lady Hawks split games at Holiday Classic

    The Lady Hawks (4-4) split their games in the Aspen Creek/Vision EyeCare Holiday Classic at Bullitt East.

    LaRue County rallied to force overtime against the Lady Titans, but ran out of steam in the extra period. They fell 50-47.

    Freshman Alexis Brewer led the Lady Hawks with 18 points, while sophomore Ivy Brown just missed a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals.

    Junior Haley Holt scored seven and had six rebounds while Allison Evans and Alisha Durbin had four each.

    Bell bounced 57-46

  • Smoky Mountain Duals a true test for Mat Hawks

    Wrestling USA magazine is calling it one of the toughest tournaments in the South this year. Tomorrow and Friday, the LaRue County Mat Hawks will compete in the Smoky Mountain Duals in Pigeon Forge, facing some of the best from around the entire South.
    This year head coach Gary Canter has put together the “toughest schedule ever” for any of his teams. The Mat Hawks have risen to the challenge at every turn.

  • Hawks on hot streak with wins over North and Caverna

    The LaRue County Hawks haven’t had much luck against North Hardin, but they certainly caught the Trojans at the right time this season.
    And they took advantage of it.
    Junior Kelton Ford scored a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter, as the Hawks knocked off the Trojans, 68-62, Dec. 13 at Ron Bevars Gymnasium. It was LaRue County’s first win over North Hardin since the 1994-95 season.

  • Lady Hawks defeat Daviess, Caverna

    Sophomore Ivy Brown had consecutive double-doubles to lead the LaRue County Lady Hawks to back-to-back wins over the weekend.
    LaRue County (2-3) knocked off visiting Daviess County, 48-36 on Saturday after beating 18th District rival Caverna, 60-40 on Friday night.
    Brown had 14 points, 12 steals, seven rebounds and five assists as the Lady Hawks held on against Daviess County.
    Freshman Alexis Brewer added 21 points – including one 3-pointer – and three assists, while sophomore Allison Evans had five points and eight rebounds.

  • Hawks host sixth annual National Guard Holiday Classic

    The LaRue County High School Boys Basketball team will host the sixth annual National Guard Holiday Classic Dec. 27-29 at the LCHS gym.  
    Hawks Head Coach Paul Childress anticipates a great tourney with a very competitive field with several local teams.  
    “I think this will be a great tournament,” Childress said. “We have several teams from around the area coming in and have some good first round matchups. Hopefully, because of the proximity of the teams, we will have some good crowds during the tourney.”

  • Eight Mat Hawks perfect at Bruin Duals

    The LaRue County Mat Hawks continued their dominating December performance by crushing Lexington Lafayette, Barren County, Meade County and Central Hardin on Saturday at the Central Hardin duals.
    No team won more than three individual matches in their dual with the Mat Hawks.
    In the match-up with Barren County, the Mat Hawks scored their third perfect score of the year, 84-0. The Mat Hawks almost blanked Central Hardin as well, a team who many believe is the second best team in the region, beating the Bruins 67-3.
