  • SOCCER: Hawks win season opener

     The first week of soccer matches saw good fortune for the Hawks of LaRue County High School. 

    The Hawks soccer team opened the 18th district season play Aug. 13 with an impressive 8-2 victory over the visiting Campbellsville Eagles. On the attack, seniors Alex Cook, Rico Collado and Marshall Metcalf continued their assault on the record books.

    Collado gathered his troops and fed a diagonal-running Metcalf with a pinpoint pass. At 5:32 p.m., Metcalf's score was perhaps the first score in the state.

     The E’town ACES placed second in Pool B of the 18 Intermediate division of the USTA KY State Jr. Team Tennis Finals. They edged the Owensboro team by two games, 76-74, in pool play.      Two Hardin County-area teams captured USTA Kentucky Jr. Team Tennis State championships last weekend in Louisville. Both teams qualify to advance to the nine-state USTA Southern Sectional JTT tournament in Auburn Ala., on Aug. 17-20.

     Two Hardin County-area teams captured USTA Kentucky Jr. Team Tennis State championships last weekend in Louisville. Both teams qualify to advance to the nine-state USTA Southern Sectional JTT tournament in Auburn Ala., on Aug. 17-20. 

    The E’town Thunder won the 13-team 18 Intermediate division by dominating the five-team Pool A and then adding semifinal and finals victories. From left, Bilal Ahmed, Reza Haider, Natalie Fiepke, Jenna Mullen, Ann Lauren Fiepke, Tyler Edlin, Michelle Seymour, Tad Skaggs and Alex Spalding.

  • Cameron Dawson wins golf tourney

    Cameron Dawson won the 13-14-year-old division in the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour at Kearney Hill in Lexington. Cameron, an eighth grader, is the son of LaRue County High School Athletic Director David Dawson. He has been playing the sport for nine years and has competed in the regional golf tournament.

  • Lee, Sheeran honored at Select Preps banquet

    Two LaRue County High School athletes were named Student-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports by The News-Enterprise as part of its inaugural Select Preps Awards Banquet.
    Tennis player Zachary Lee and basketball player Kyle Sheeran received the honor from LaRue County.

     For new LaRue County head baseball coach Eric Allen, it’s never been about the money. To him, it’s just about the baseball.
