  • Lady Hawks fall to Grayson, Meade

    Traditionally, LaRue County’s colors have always been white and blue. However, Monday night, May 8, pink became the color of choice for the Lady Hawks.
    It was “Pink Out” night at Cougar Field in conjunction with senior night.
    The opposing Grayson County Lady Cougars joined in on the festivities by wearing their own pink shirts. This game was scheduled to recognize and give support for those who are fighting and have fought the battle of breast cancer.
    There was much success with more than $600 raised to support the battle against cancer.

  • Michelle Seymour to play at State Tennis Tourney

    Eleven area singles players or doubles teams qualified for the KHSAA State Tournament, which will be held May 18-19 in Lexington.
    LaRue County senior Michelle Seymour earned her third state trip with some spirited play. Seymour pushed through for a 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 victory over seventh-seeded Aryn Massengale from Taylor County in the quarterfinals before giving AnnLauren Fiepke a fight in a 6-3, 6-2 semifinal loss.

  • Thompson, Durbin head to State Track Meet

    LaRue County Track and Field athletes competed Thursday in the Class 2-A, Region 2 Meet. Two advanced to the State contest.
    The Lady Hawks placed fifth with 48 points.
    Junior Alisha Durbin won the 100 hurdles and long jump, was third in the 300s and helped LaRue County to a fourth-place finish in the 1,600 relay.
    “I felt great all night,” she said. “I still can’t believe I got two. It’s amazing. My coaches have really helped me out. Coach (Drew) Simpson has made me better.”

  • Regional track meet: Two LaRue athletes going to State

     LaRue County Track and Field athletes competed Thursday in the Class 2-A, Region 2 Meet. Two advanced to the State contest.

    The Lady Hawks placed fifth with 48 points.

  • BASEBALL: Hawks hang on to defeat North Bullitt

    The LaRue County High School Hawks defeated host North Bullitt 9-7 May 1.
    The Hawks were ahead 8-1 by the top of the fifth inning, with North making it interesting with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
    North scored first in the first inning.
    The Hawks answered in the second inning when Kyle Meredith hit a double and scored on Wesley Kessinger’s double.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Hawks defeat Hart, fall to Central Hardin

    The LaRue County High School Lady Hawks defeated Hart County 10-6 May 3.
    The outcome was much the same at the teams’ first meeting this season. The Lady Hawks won 13-4 in April.
    The Lady Hawks used a six-run sixth inning to pull away from Hart County.
    Trailing 6-4, LaRue County broke the game open in the sixth to win its second straight.
    Sophomore Brigitte Skaggs went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.
    Freshman Tristan Cruse added three hits and two runs, and senior Bethany Skaggs went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

  • TENNIS: Region tennis tourney starts Saturday

    The Region tennis tournament starts Saturday at University Park Drive in Elizabethtown.
    LaRue’s Michelle Seymour is fourth seed in singles. In girls’ doubles, Amelia Miller and Paige Nalley are seeded third.
    Fifteen schools will compete.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Hawks snap losing streak with Monday’s win over Campbellsville

    The Lady Hawks fell April 24 to Meade County, 11-1.
    The game was called at five innings with LaRue County having two hits.
    Sophomore Courtney Johnson doubled and scored for LaRue County. Senior Bethany Skaggs singled for the Lady Hawks’ only other hit.

    The visiting Lady Cardinals used a six-run third inning to pull away from the Lady Hawks Thursday.
    Senior Brittany Enlow hit a solo homer in the third for LaRue while sophomore Peyton Gardner doubled and junior Kayla Skaggs hit two singles.

  • BASEBALL: Hawks go 3-0 in Louisville Invitational tourny

    The LaRue County Hawks accomplished an unusual feat as they went 3-0 over the weekend in the Louisville Invitational Tournament.
    The Hawks, who won all three games by a run, were no-hit in a 1-0 victory over Newport Central Catholic on Saturday. LaRue County also topped Louisville Southern, 3-2 and Louisville Trinity, 5-4 in the two-day event at Southern.
    Senior Steven Carpenter scored when he and fellow senior Slade Owens pulled off a double steal in the bottom of the first against Newport Central Catholic.
