  • WRESTLING: Mat Hawks avenge early season losses

     Over the Christmas break, the LaRue County High School wrestling team participated in two tournaments finishing first in both. The Mat Hawks won the Meade County Tsunami Duals and then traveled to Arkansas and won the Hurricane Holiday Classic.

    On the first day of the two-day Tsunami, the Mat Hawks found themselves in a pool with the two teams who had defeated them three weeks earlier – host school Meade County and Oldham County.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks defeat Green

    Senior point guard Kelton Ford and sophomore shooting guard Micah Wiseman both had career nights Friday night as the homestanding LaRue County Hawks pulled away from 18th District rival Green County.

    Ford scored four of his game-high 22 points off the first two dunks of his career and Wiseman scored all of his career-high 18 points from the arc as Hawks emerged with a 66-42 win over the Dragons after trailing 12-11 early in the second quarter.

  • BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks defeat Green

    Ivy Brown used an unexpected stay on the bench to her advantage Friday night.

    Sitting the entire second quarter because she picked up two fouls in less than 2 minutes to start the game, the LaRue County junior wing still finished with a game-high 25 points as the homestanding Lady Hawks surged past the Green County Lady Dragons, 63-50 and into the driver’s seat in the 18th District.

  • Basketball: Lady Hawks defeat Bardstown

     It didn’t take long for the homestanding LaRue County Lady Hawks to turn Thursday’s game against 5th Region foe Bardstown into a rout.

    The Lady Hawks jumped out to a 21-point lead after the first quarter en route to a 63-27 win over the Lady Tigers.

    Junior guard Ivy Brown had 22 points, 13 rebounds and four steals for LaRue County (8-3), while sophomore guard Alexis Brewer chipped in with 15 points, seven assists and five steals.

  • Engstrand takes reins at Green County

     Chris Engstrand, a 1997 LaRue County High School graduate, has been named head football coach of the Green County High School Dragons.

    The 2001 Campbellsville University graduate goes to Green County from Fairdale High School where his Bulldogs posted a 5-16 record during his two-year tenure there.

    Prior to that, his Henry County teams amassed a 28-19 record in four seasons (2006-09).  

  • Hawks win National Guard Holiday Classic Tournament

    The LaRue County Hawks won the sixth annual National Guard Holiday Classic basketball tournament over winter break. The tournament, hosted by the Hawks, featured eight teams.

  • Chris Engstrand named head football coach at Green County High School

     Chris Engstrand, a 1997 LaRue County High School graduate, has been named the new head football coach at Green County High School, the Greensburg Record-Herald reported Monday.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks begin play in National Guard Holiday Classic tonight

     After a tumultuous start, the LaRue County Hawks seem to have started to put things together.

    They just wrapped up playing in the Capital City Invitational at Frankfort Western Hills, where the team recorded a runner-up finish. Childress thought it was a positive tournament which helped develop their teamwork. He hopes that doesn’t disappear during their National Guard Holiday Classic, which begins this afternoon.
