  • Chris Engstrand named head football coach at Green County High School

     Chris Engstrand, a 1997 LaRue County High School graduate, has been named the new head football coach at Green County High School, the Greensburg Record-Herald reported Monday.

  • BASKETBALL: Hawks begin play in National Guard Holiday Classic tonight

     After a tumultuous start, the LaRue County Hawks seem to have started to put things together.

    They just wrapped up playing in the Capital City Invitational at Frankfort Western Hills, where the team recorded a runner-up finish. Childress thought it was a positive tournament which helped develop their teamwork. He hopes that doesn’t disappear during their National Guard Holiday Classic, which begins this afternoon.

  • BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks win two in tourney

     The Lady Hawks defeated East Carter’s Lady Raiders Dec. 23 in overtime in the final game of the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.

    Junior center Alley Evans made a putback with less than 9 seconds left in overtime to put the Lady Hawks over the top.

    Evans just missed a double-double (nine points, 10 rebounds), while junior wing Ivy Brown had 17 points, four assists, four blocks and four steals. Sophomore guard Alexis Brewer chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds.

  • Hawks take second in tournament

    The LaRue County Hawks defeated Western Hills (73-58) and Henry County (62-45) before falling to Louisville Doss (53-38) in the Capital City Invitational at Frankfort Western Hills over winter break.

    Senior guard Kelton Ford continued his torrid play in leading the Hawks past the Henry County Wildcats and into the championship of the Capital City Classic at Frankfort Western Hills.

    Ford had 24 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals, while junior forward Kody Key-Close added 11 points, two steals, one rebound and one assist.

  • Lady Hawks drop two games

     

    The Lady Hawks lost two games in the Republic Bank Holiday Classic over winter break.

    They dropped 46-37 to Louisville Assumption despite having the lead 18-to-16 at halftime.

    Junior guard Ivy Brown led LaRue County with 15 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists, while sophomore guard Alexis Brewer added nine points and two steals.

    Senior forward Haley Holt scored eight points, hitting one of three 3-point attempts.

    Junior center Alley Evans scored three and had six rebounds.

      Former Hawk Kyle Sheeran broke the school record set for points scored last season. He was presented a basketball trophy by Lady Hawk Coach Travis Wootton, who held the previous record since 1991. 

  • Brown scores 34 points in opening game of tournament

     LaRue County’s Lady Hawks defeated Campbell County 63-53 Wednesday in the first round of the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.
