  • State Wrestling Tournament, first day results

North Hardin’s Jake Burroughs was quick and certainly effective Tuesday during the opening two rounds of the KHSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Lexington at the Kentucky Horse Park’s Alltech Arena.

North Hardin’s 126-pounder moved to 18-4 on the season with a pair of first-minute pins — downing Louisville St. Xavier’s Kaden Darbro in 49 seconds before topping Belfry’s Dalton Lowe even faster in 26 seconds — to earn a berth in today’s third round.

  • 18TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Lady Hawks can't overcome Caverna's luck

During a break in practice Monday afternoon, LaRue County freshman guard Presley Brown said the Lady Hawks could shock the 18th District on Tuesday night in tournament semifinals against second-seeded Caverna.

Had her midcourt, buzzer-beating 3-pointer fallen instead of rimming out, Brown and the third-seeded Lady Hawks might have pulled off a shocker. Instead, the balanced — and sometimes lucky — Lady Colonels survived, 58-55.

  • 18TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Hawks lose 65-61 to Green

The LaRue County Hawks lost Tuesday night in the opening round of the 18th District Tournament.

Third-seeded Green County built a double-digit lead less than 8 minutes and never trailed in a 65-61 win over the second-seeded Hawks at Hawk gym.

LaRue County shot 34.5 percent in the first half to Green County’s scorching 60 percent, but the Hawks were still within 34-27 at the break after senior forward Caleb Sheffer made 1-of-2 free throws during a lonely trip to the foul line since he was fouled at the buzzer.
