  • Milby, Dragons end LaRue's streak

    HORSE CAVE With a matchup looming against the pitcher who struck them out 18 times earlier this season, the LaRue County Hawks were primed for another chance.

    They got the opportunity they’ve been waiting for against Green County ace Brennen Milby, but they may have been a little too excited.

    Mother Nature wins again.

    The 18th District baseball and softball tournament championship games between LaRue County and Green County were rained out Tuesday and rescheduled for 6 tonight at Caverna – that is, if Mother Nature allows it.

    More rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for today, meaning both games could get pushed back to Thursday. Because LaRue County and Green County have graduation Friday night, Lady Hawks coach Aaron Howell hopes Plan ‘A’ works out.

  • Holt signs with Lindsey Wilson

    LaRue County High School senior Haley Holt has signed to play for Lindsey Wilson College as guard for this fall.

    Holt, the daughter of Sandy and Tony Holt, said she was not sure if she was going to continue playing basketball when she started college. However, she became certain she wanted to continue her career when she went to a practice with the college team.

  • Abell falls in first round at state

    LaRue County senior Ryan Abell fell in state tennis tournament play this past Thursday in his first round of play to North Oldham Senior Tyler Kilambi.

    Abell said that nothing felt right to him all day. “My inside-out forehand wasn’t good. He was keeping it in and being aggressive with my backhand. He kept on hitting his inside-out very well. I couldn’t serve all day,” said Abell.

  • Lady Hawks outplay E’town, Fort Knox

    LaRue County’s Lady Hawks held a 1-0 lead through the sixth inning May 14 against Taylor County’s Lady Cardinals.

    The Lady Cards scored all five of their runs in the seventh inning, breaking LaRue’s three-game winning streak with a 5-1 victory.

    Sophomore Trishtian Cruse went 2-for-2 for LaRue, while sophomore Sierra Mullins had an RBI single.

    Sophomore Emillee Cundiff struck out six and gave up five earned runs, five hits and three walks.

  • Brewer takes third in hurdles

    Amanda Brewer, a sophomore at LaRue County High School, placed third in the 300-meter hurdles May 9 at the Regional Track Meet in Bardstown.

    Her time was 52.34 – just short of earning her a slot at the State Track Meet.

    She competed in the 4x400-Meter Relay and 4x800-Meter Relay at State with teammates Kristina Durbin, Nichole Thomas and Natalie Mullins.
