  • CROSS COUNTRY: Sandidge takes fourth at State

In a typical race, LaRue County senior Adam Sandidge usually kicks things into another gear after the first mile.

That’s when he gets comfortable and keeps a steady pace, but Saturday wasn’t a typical race for him.

Chest and leg pain prevented him from taking the intensity up a few notches, but Sandidge wasn’t going to let that keep him from another top-five finish at the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships.

  • FOOTBALL: Hawks fall to Campbellsville

The Hawks were handed their 10th loss of the season Friday, 34-7, by the Campbellsville Eagles.

It’s the first winless regular season in at least 23 years.

In a season marred by injuries and players leaving the team, everything seemed to catch up to the Hawks against the Eagles (3-7).

LaRue County fumbled the ball three times, turned the ball over on downs twice, had a potential touchdown pass intercepted in the end zone and had a fake punt snuffed out in the fourth quarter.

  • Volleyball season comes to end for Lady Hawks

The season came to a close Wednesday for LaRue County’s Lady Hawks as they fell in the 5th Region Volleyball Tournament semifinals to Central Hardin.

The undermanned Lady Hawks gave the Lady Bruins their best shot but Central Hardin pulled through with a 25-9, 20-25, 25-22, 25-16 victory.

  • VOLLEYBALL: Lady Hawks continue in Region

Out of timeouts in the final two sets, all LaRue County coach Ben Schell could do was watch as the Lady Hawks’ season hung in the balance Monday in the 5th Region Volleyball Tournament quarterfinals at John Hardin.

Schell had burned the allotted two timeouts per set early on as LaRue County fell behind. But both times, an experienced-laden team – which starts four seniors – dug its way out of holes with near-impossible comebacks.

And as a result, the Lady Hawks are moving on.

  • Band of Hawks season cut short by a fraction

The LaRue County Band of Hawks competed over the weekend in KMEA State Marching Band Championships at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.

LaRue County missed its final in Class 3-A finals by seven-tenths of a point, but Director Jamie Smith said the students turned in their best performance of the year.

“Even though we’re disappointed, we’re proud of our performance,” Smith said.

“The final score just didn’t shake out,” he added.

  • FOOTBALL: Hawks fall to Louisville Central

The LaRue County Hawks lost its ninth game this season Friday to the Louisville Central Yellowjackets.

Three of the Hawks’ four turnovers came in its own territory, allowing the Yellowjackets to take advantage of short field positions enroute to a 34-0 win in both teams’ final Class 3-A, District 3 game of the year.

LaRue hadn’t fumbled the ball aways its previous three games before losing two fumbles Friday. The Hawks were intercepted twice.

The Hawks had 91 yards on 43 plays. Central racked up 304 yards on 48 plays.

  • CROSS COUNTRY: Sandidge wins Mid-Kentucky Conference

Adam Sandidge, for the second year, won the Mid-Kentucky Athletic Conference meet at the Bluegrass Entertainment Center (formerly Hillbilly Heaven) in Bardstown.

Last year, Sandidge had a time of 16:56.25.

At the Oct. 22 event, he shaved several seconds off his time (16:21.08) in the 5,000-meter run.

Eighty runners from eight teams competed in the event.

Teamwise, LaRue County’s boys placed fifth.

For the girls, LaRue’s Kristina Durbin placed 14th with a time of 21:36.51.
