  • Cameron Dawson wins golf tourney

    Cameron Dawson won the 13-14-year-old division in the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour at Kearney Hill in Lexington. Cameron, an eighth grader, is the son of LaRue County High School Athletic Director David Dawson. He has been playing the sport for nine years and has competed in the regional golf tournament.

  • Lee, Sheeran honored at Select Preps banquet

    Two LaRue County High School athletes were named Student-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports by The News-Enterprise as part of its inaugural Select Preps Awards Banquet.
    Tennis player Zachary Lee and basketball player Kyle Sheeran received the honor from LaRue County.

  • New Football Coach Josh Jaggers runs summer practice

    It’s a hot summer night and the sun is blazing down, but the football field at LaRue County High School is alive with action. Guys streak across the field, as they play a game of 7-on-7 two-hand-touch football. The game easily could be in someone’s backyard at a summer barbeque – laughter is reverberating across the field and there are roars of delight when someone makes a particularly impressive catch.

  • Dawson finishes 10th in golf tourney

    After area golfers struggled in the opening day of the Junior PGA Championship qualifier, they came to life in Thursday’s final round. Especially Michael Reed.

    The 14-year-old Elizabethtown resident won the boys’ 13-15-year-old Junior PGA Championship qualifier Thursday at Bardstown Country Club’s Maywood Course. He did it in thrilling fashion, too, in a playoff.

  • Ford nets 10 in All-Star game

    LaRue County guard Kelton Ford opened the first Indiana-Kentucky Junior Boys’ All-Star game with a power-packed performance.

    Ford scored 10 points in Kentucky’s first meeting with Indiana, but his Junior All-Stars suffered a 126-103 loss at Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis. He was 1-of-5 Kentucky players to reach double digits, along with Omar Prewitt (18), Darryl Hicks (16), Dominique Hawkins (14), LaVonne Holland (14) and Taylor Glover (10).

    LaRue County’s Caleb Sheffer and Dustin Coulter put pressure on Warrior A.J. Wilkerson last week at Hooper Eblen at Tennessee Tech team camp. LaRue was the only team to defeat the White County Warriors of Sparta, Tenn.

  • Sandidge competes at State Park events

     Forty miles a week, going on 60. A mid-17-minute 5K time. Consistently beating out older and stronger runners in statewide races. You could say Adam Sandidge isn’t the typical 16-year-old. 

    Heading into his junior year at LaRue County High School, Sandidge has been running since he came across the high school cross-country tryouts when he was in the fifth grade. By seventh grade, he had run his first 10-mile race.
