It’s a hot summer night and the sun is blazing down, but the football field at LaRue County High School is alive with action. Guys streak across the field, as they play a game of 7-on-7 two-hand-touch football. The game easily could be in someone’s backyard at a summer barbeque – laughter is reverberating across the field and there are roars of delight when someone makes a particularly impressive catch.

LaRue County guard Kelton Ford opened the first Indiana-Kentucky Junior Boys’ All-Star game with a power-packed performance.

Ford scored 10 points in Kentucky’s first meeting with Indiana, but his Junior All-Stars suffered a 126-103 loss at Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis. He was 1-of-5 Kentucky players to reach double digits, along with Omar Prewitt (18), Darryl Hicks (16), Dominique Hawkins (14), LaVonne Holland (14) and Taylor Glover (10).

 Forty miles a week, going on 60. A mid-17-minute 5K time. Consistently beating out older and stronger runners in statewide races. You could say Adam Sandidge isn’t the typical 16-year-old. 

Heading into his junior year at LaRue County High School, Sandidge has been running since he came across the high school cross-country tryouts when he was in the fifth grade. By seventh grade, he had run his first 10-mile race. 

 Kayla Skaggs, a junior at LaRue County High School, was named to first-team Academic All-State by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association. She played first base and pitcher for the Lady Hawks. In order to be considered, players must appear in at least 50 percent of their teams' varsity games. Only juniors and seniors are eligible. Based on a 4.0 grade-point average, the breakdown is 3.75 to 4.0 for the first team, 3.50 to 3.74 for the second team and 3.25 to 3.49 for honorable mentions.
