  • TRACK: LCHS hosting All-Comers meet

    Update: Event canceled due to track conditions.

    The LaRue County High School track team will host an All-Comers meet on March 10. Teams participating include Grayson, Marion, Bardstown Bethlehem, Green, Meade, Elizabethtown, Nelson and Fort Knox.

  • 18TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Lady Hawks can't overcome Caverna's luck

    During a break in practice Monday afternoon, LaRue County freshman guard Presley Brown said the Lady Hawks could shock the 18th District on Tuesday night in tournament semifinals against second-seeded Caverna.

    Had her midcourt, buzzer-beating 3-pointer fallen instead of rimming out, Brown and the third-seeded Lady Hawks might have pulled off a shocker. Instead, the balanced — and sometimes lucky — Lady Colonels survived, 58-55.

  • 18TH DISTRICT TOURNAMENT: Hawks lose 65-61 to Green

    The LaRue County Hawks lost Tuesday night in the opening round of the 18th District Tournament.

    Third-seeded Green County built a double-digit lead less than 8 minutes and never trailed in a 65-61 win over the second-seeded Hawks at Hawk gym.

    LaRue County shot 34.5 percent in the first half to Green County’s scorching 60 percent, but the Hawks were still within 34-27 at the break after senior forward Caleb Sheffer made 1-of-2 free throws during a lonely trip to the foul line since he was fouled at the buzzer.

  • Brewer finalist for Miss Kentucky Basketball

    Former Lady Hawk Alexis Brewer, who now plays for Bardstown High School, is one of 18 Miss Kentucky Basketball finalists.

    The Miss Basketball finalists were revealed last week when the Louisville-based Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation released the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches Senior Region Player of the Year list. Each Region Player of the Year, including ties, is a finalist.

  • 18th District tournament continues this week at LaRue

    The 18th District Basketball Tournament began Monday at LaRue County High School.

    LCHS Athletic Director David Dawson said last week he was “optimistic” that the tournament would take place as planned, despite the wintry weather. A contingency plan was developed – but ultimately, not needed.

    Monday, in the boys’ tournament, Caverna defeated Hart County, 88-63. Tuesday, LaRue battled with Green. The championship will be determined Friday, Feb. 27.

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association postponed the State Wrestling Championships due to wintry weather.

    The State Wrestling Championships, originally scheduled for Feb. 19-21, will be held March 9-11, according to a news release.

    The Kentucky High School Athletic Association postponed the State Wrestling Championships due to wintry weather.

    “In the interest of the safety and welfare of our competitors, coaches, workers and officials, and to ensure that participation experience for the student-athletes is optimal, the KHSAA has postponed the State Wrestling Championships, originally scheduled for Feb. 19-21, until March 9-11,” according to a news release.

  • 18th District Tournament has contingency plan

    The 18th District Basketball Tournament is scheduled to begin Monday at LaRue County High School.

    LCHS Athletic Director David Dawson said he is “optimistic” that the tournament will take place as planned, however they do have a contingency plan.

    Dates and times

    Monday, Feb. 23 - Girls #1 (Green) and #4 (Hart) at 6:30 p.m.

    Boys #1 (Caverna) and #4 (Hart) will begin 25 minutes following game (about 8:15 p.m.)

    Tuesday, Feb. 24 - Girls #2 (Caverna) and #3 (LaRue) at 6:30 p.m.
