  • Jaggers resigns as football coach

    Josh Jaggers confirmed that he has resigned as LaRue County’s football coach.

    When it came to running the program, Jaggers said he had "full support" from LaRue County principal Kyle Goodlett and LaRue County athletic director David Dawson.

    Jaggers, 33, who said he plans to stay at the school, was 8-26 in three seasons with the Hawks. LaRue County, playing a lineup featuring several freshmen and sophomores, went 2-9 this year after a 42-13 loss at Corbin in the first round of the Class 3-A state playoffs.

  • BASKETBALL: LaRue falls to Nelson

     The LaRue County Hawks fell Dec. 9 to Nelson County, 49-44, at home.

    Senior forward Caleb Sheffer led LaRue County with 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals, while sophomore guard Cameron Dawson chipped in with six points, four assists and three rebounds.

    Senior guard Micah Wiseman and freshman guard Shane King each scored six.

    The Hawks went 0-for-11 on 3-pointers.

    Kane Harris scored three; Bryson Cobb scored 2.

    UP NEXT: LaRue County plays at Hart County at 8 p.m. Friday.

    For one spurt in the fourth quarter of their season opener Saturday night, the LaRue County Hawks saw what they might be later in the season: Caleb Sheffer attacking the rim and getting to the free throw line, Micah Wiseman setting up Cameron Dawson for 3-pointers and a slew of freshmen quickening the pace.

    But as LaRue County coach Paul Childress said, his team has “a long way to go.”

  • Lady Hawks earn win at Classic

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks had one of the state’s top duos the last few seasons, and they’re hoping a new one is in the works with freshmen guards Presley Brown and Mallory Williams.

    The pair looked up to the task Saturday afternoon.

    Brown and Williams combined for 40 points and 18 steals as the Lady Hawks pulled away from visiting Central Hardin, 69-54 in the Corky Cox Classic.

    LaRue County’s Lady Hawks suffered a 71-34 loss Thursday to Meade County’s Lady Waves in Brandenburg.

    LaRue had 29 turnovers in the season opener.
