     Paige Perkins, a student at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, signed a letter of intent to run cross country and track at Spalding University in Louisville. She is the fifth runner and first girl track athlete from South Warren to sign with a college. She is the daughter of Nathan and Emily Perkins of Bowling Green, and the granddaughter of Tommy and Janice Perkins of Hodgenville.   • BASKETBALL: Lady Hawks are Region runners-up

      A stellar season came to an end for the Lady Hawks Sunday as they fell in the 5th Region championship, 73-56, to Elizabethtown’s Lady Panthers.

    LaRue’s Ladies defeated E’town 65-58 in their last regular season match-up. Sunday was a different story as the Lady Panthers never trailed and led by double digits for all but the opening 5:05 at Nelson County’s Cardinal Gym. It was E’town’s seventh region title.

    The Lady Hawks didn’t make a field goal in the opening 7 minutes as they dug themselves a 16-2 hole.

    The Lady Hawks defeated Marion County 65-54 Saturday in 5th Region play.

    The Region championship game will be played 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Nelson County. LaRue will play  E'town.

    BARDSTOWN — The LaRue County Lady Hawks were in search of a lift in the second half and it came from an unsuspecting place.

  • 5th Region Tournament: Lady Hawks beat North

    BARDSTOWN – Once Alexis Brewer and Ivy Brown got on a roll Thursday night, the LaRue County Lady Hawks rocked the North Hardin Lady Trojans right out of the Girls’ 5th Region Tournament.

    Brewer notched a career high and Brown added a double-double as the Lady Hawks broke away from deadlocked game with less than 6 minutes left in the third quarter en route to an 84-60 win over the Lady Trojans in the final quarterfinal at Nelson County’s Cardinal Gym.

     LEBANON –The shots weren’t falling for the Elizabethtown Panthers in the early going Thursday night, so they turned to their defense to ignite them.

    And once the Panthers knocked down a few, it was smooth sailing from there against the LaRue County Hawks.

  • 5th Region Tournament schedule changed due to weather

    Mother Nature must not be a basketball fan.

    After postponing and canceling games during the regular season, Mother Nature has done the same in the postseason, pushing back the opening games of the 5th and 3rd Region tournaments after the area was hit with snow, sleet and ice.

    “You just have to deal with what Mother Nature gives you,” LaRue County coach Paul Childress said. “Everyone is dealing with it. There’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to be able to roll with it.”

  • Weather affects 5th Region Tournament

    UPDATE: The Girls' 5th Region Tournament games for Tuesday night have been postponed because of weather for the second consecutive day.

    Elizabethtown was scheduled to play Adair County after the Nelson County-Caverna matchup. The games will be played Wednesday. Nelson County and Caverna play at 6 p.m. followed by Elizabethtown and Adair County at 8 p.m.

  • 5th REGION TOURNAMENT: Hawks play Wednesday

     Area rivals will meet in the Boys’ 5th Region Tournament for the first time in more than a decade, while familiar foes could play one another once again in the postseason.

    The 17th District champion Elizabethtown Panthers (21-8) face rival and 18th District runner-up LaRue County (16-13) at 6 p.m. at Wednesday in the quarterfinals at Marion County’s Roby Dome.
