I would like to take this opportunity to thank the city employees for their diligence and commitment in helping control the onslaught of the rain that fell on our community May 2 and 3, 2010. A leader is only as good as those working for him. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Lisa Tolliver used 823 words in her article “Candidate’s Residency Questioned.” I am Phillip Mouser, the focus of that article. Three hundred words, that’s the maximum I’m allowed in my response to the article according to the publisher and editor of The Kentucky Standard where the article first appeared. Barely one-third the space allotted for a response. Fair?

As Executive Director of the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to your LaRue County Judge/Executive, Tommy Turner, for the excellent work he has done on behalf of Kentucky counties.

The LaRue County Relay for Life is May 14 at Hodgenville Elementary School. This is the fifth and final in a series of cancer survivor stories to bring awareness to this cause.

“Cancer is the one word no parent wants to hear and no one should have to go through,” said Linda Long. But when Todd and Linda heard the diagnosis last fall for their second-grade daughter Ashley, reality set in for the young family.

On this day, 145 years ago, President Abraham Lincoln hoped for a relaxing evening at the theater. Four years of Civil War had taken a toll on him and he needed the diversion.

He, his wife Mary and another couple decided to watch the comedy “Our American Cousin.”  They were laughing in all the right places, unaware that the sole bodyguard had abandoned his post.

I feel compelled to write this letter in support of Bobby Shoffner and his campaign for re-election of sheriff. I cannot say enough good things about Sheriff Shoffner and his deputies. Since 2005 until this past year, I worked for this county in the capacity of a social worker. During that time, one of my job duties was to perform investigations of allegations of child abuse and neglect. Any time the allegations were in the area of the county, I was always free to call any deputy working during that time.

Our precious little granddaughter Autumn Rae was amazing Dennis and I this weekend with her ability to read. It was a piece of mail Dennis had received and she pronounced a lot of big words for a first grader and we were beaming with pride at our latest prodigy. But what she was reading sent me into my latest rant.

If you could save someone’s life, would you? Most of us would, if given the opportunity, which is exactly what choosing to be an organ donor does.

About 17 1/2 years ago, we were blessed with our first grandchild, Austin Lee, affectionately called “Little A.” We thought we had died and gone to Heaven with love over-flowing in our hearts for this dear baby. We have since been blessed with four more grandchildren, Brittney, 16, Brianna, 14, Autumn, 7, and Jonah, 2 and they’re all very dear to our hearts.
