The 2012 drought greatly reduced Kentucky corn yields and left many producers wondering whether they have the protection they need in case of another disastrous season.

University of Kentucky College of Agriculture economist Cory Walters said producers can choose between two risk protection programs offered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture - the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Payment Program and the Average Crop Revenue Election.

Hardees/Red Burrito owners Wayne and Wendy Tyree recently celebrated their 20th year in business.

During the anniversary, several giveaways were awarded including two kids’ bikes.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jones were the winners of the boy’s bike, and Farrin Humphrey was the winner of the girl’s bike.

After the winners were announced, Humphrey and Jones switched bikes because the Joneses needed a girl’s bike for a family member, and the good deed trade didn’t end there.

 The LaRue County Hawks defeated Hart County 7-5 on May 7.

Clifford and Mary Lou Humes Owen of Hodgenville, will celebrate their 60th anniversary on May 22, 2013.
They married on May 22, 1953, at Upton Baptist Church Parsonage, Upton, by Rev. J. E. Darter.
Mary Lou is the daughter of the late Bill and Alva Humes of Upton and a member of South Fork Homemakers Club and Eastern Star.
Clifford is the son of the late Lennie and Ethel Owen of Magnolia.
He retired after 25 years with Dow Corning and farmed in the Magnolia area. He is an avid gardener.
