Lady Hawks defeat Campbellsville

LaRue County’s Lady Hawks defeated Campbellsville, 13-2, April 30.

Sophomore catcher Sierra Mullins went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs while classmate Emillee Cundiff tossed a complete game to lead the host Lady Hawks to the five-inning victory over the Lady Eagles.

Cundiff walked three and gave up two hits while not giving up an earned run.

Juniors Peyton Gardner and Courtney Johnson, sophomore Trishtian Cruse (2-for-3) and freshmen Haleigh Gregory and Shakeya Washington also drove in runs to help LaRue County win its third straight game.

Several LaRue County High School tennis players have advanced in the 5th Region Tournament underway at Freeman Lake Tennis Complex in Elizabethtown.

Child injured by wringer washer

A small child was injured last week when his arm was caught in a wringer washer.

LaRue County Deputy Russell McCoy received a call to do a welfare check on the child, estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old.

“His parents had taken him to Taylor Regional Hospital after his arm was caught in a wringer washer,” McCoy said. “They were told to (take the child) to Kosair’s and they never went.”

Benefit concert held by...

The Benningfields‚ Ashley, Brittany and Ron‚ will perform in concert at 2 p.m. June 2 at Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church.

Brittany, Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Kentucky and 2003 alumnus from LaRue County High School, has been invited to perform the role of “Alice” in Verdi’s opera “Falstaff” at the prestigious Bay View Music Festival in Petoskey, Michigan, this summer.

HES students enter KET video...

Students at Hodgenville Elementary School submitted a video to Kentucky Educational Television in hopes of winning an Apple iPad and video production accessories including a microphone, tripod and iPod tripod adapter, through a drawing.
The overall theme for the video project was, “Our Environment: Local Solutions.”
Sydney Pepper and Savannah Bandurske, with help from fellow student Christy Kirkpatrick, produced the video entitled, “Home-School-Community: How can we help?”

Gordon Thomas named KAAHC liaison

Gordon Thomas has been named the liaison for LaRue County for the Kentucky African American Heritage Council.

Thomas, a LaRue County native, is the son of Earl and Claudine Thomas of Hodgenville.
He graduated from LaRue County High School in 1980 and studied at the University of Kentucky, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Morehead State and Shenandoah University.  

Thomas will promote education and awareness of the African American experience as liaison.
