Local police participate in...

Motorists who refuse to wear their seat belts – beware. The national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization kicked off May 20.

“Too many drivers and passengers on the road at night are not wearing their seat belts, and it all too often ends in tragedy,” said Hodgenville Police Chief Steven Johnson. “Our goal is to save more lives, so Hodgenville Police Department will be out enforcing seat belt laws – day and night.”

Benefit concert held by...

The Benningfields‚ Ashley, Brittany and Ron‚ will perform in concert at 2 p.m. June 2 at Pleasant Ridge Separate Baptist Church.

Brittany, Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the University of Kentucky and 2003 alumnus from LaRue County High School, has been invited to perform the role of “Alice” in Verdi’s opera “Falstaff” at the prestigious Bay View Music Festival in Petoskey, Michigan, this summer.

Crewz - Felker to wed

Gary and Sharon Crewz of Sonora announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter Chelsey Faye Nicole Crewz to William Ray Felker III.  
The bride to be is the granddaughter of Randall and Shirley Ramsey, and Sue and the late Jerry Crewz, all of Sonora. She is a 2006 graduate of LaRue County High School and an employee of Premier Home Care.

Child injured by wringer washer

A small child was injured last week when his arm was caught in a wringer washer.

LaRue County Deputy Russell McCoy received a call to do a welfare check on the child, estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old.

“His parents had taken him to Taylor Regional Hospital after his arm was caught in a wringer washer,” McCoy said. “They were told to (take the child) to Kosair’s and they never went.”

Upton teen wins art contest

Congressman Brett Guthrie announced Jacob Walters of Upton as the first place winner for Kentucky’s Second District in the 2013 Congressional Art Competition.
Walters, a student at Hart County High School, titled his artwork “Quilt of Life” and describes it as “a representation of dreams as well as a dedication to my grandmother.”

Wilcoxson's celebrate 60...

Wayne and Barbara Wilcoxson celebrated their 60-year anniversary May 19, 2013.
They were honored by their children, Mike Wilcoxson, Sheila Skaggs, Della Loyall and Wendell Wilcoxson; and several grandchildren.

Union Band Church, Ky. 84, Howardstown, will have a gospel singing 7:30 p.m. May 25 with the Hornback family and speaker, Vaudie Bell.

Weather is hot, humid, crazy

Crazy weather seems to be the normal description for Kentucky’s weather patterns … simply because there really isn’t one.
Unlike more temperate climates, which are used to bearing with rain for days on end, or more tropical or desert climates that are used to dry seasons, Kentucky is a combination – an odd and unpredictable one.
Of course we do not have to deal with hurricane force winds, earthquakes and surprisingly enough – not a whole lot of tornados.

Sheriff's office...

The LaRue County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pair of thefts that occurred last week.
Chief Deputy Russell McCoy said a lawnmower and trailer were taken from a residence on Talley-Oak Hill Road. This makes the second zero-turn mower taken in as many weeks.
Sometime over the weekend, a white enclosed trailer was taken from the lot at Cumberland Products. McCoy said workers saw it at 10 a.m. Saturday and noticed it was missing Monday morning.
The trailer is valued at about $13,000.

Procession

Students at St. Catherine Academy in New Haven had a procession to the church last week where they said the Rosary in honor of the Blessed Mother. Picturted, the St. Catherine Academy choir sings.
