Future Hawks Basketball Camp
Future Hawks Summer Basketball Camp is May 28-31 at LaRue County High School gym. Camp is open to boys in first through eighth grades as of August 2013. Fee of $40 includes a T-shirt, fundamental instruction, age division awards and age/skill level competitions. Pre-registration will be available before camp or register on the first day of camp. Grades 1-4 will be 9 to 11 a.m.; grades 5-8 will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact Paul Childress at 270-734-0722.

Prayer at graduation?

For the first time in memory Lincoln County High School in Central Kentucky will not have a planned prayer as part of its graduation ceremony, after six students, some who called themselves atheists, protested the move.

That prompted a story by Editor Ben Kleppinger for the local weekly paper, The Interior Journal, published by Schurz Communications. The school allows a planned prayer at graduation as long as the senior class votes unanimously in favor of it.

New Haven man indicted in...

A New Haven man has been indicted by a Nelson County grand jury on one count of first-degree assault.

Dylan L. Hahn, 19, is accused of “wantonly” stabbing Steven Leake in the stomach. The alleged assault occurred on or about April 20, 2013.

Bail was set at $100,000 cash, plus conditions.

He was arraigned May 16 in Nelson Circuit Court.

Big, big fish
Brewer takes third in hurdles

Amanda Brewer, a sophomore at LaRue County High School, placed third in the 300-meter hurdles May 9 at the Regional Track Meet in Bardstown.

Her time was 52.34 – just short of earning her a slot at the State Track Meet.

She competed in the 4x400-Meter Relay and 4x800-Meter Relay at State with teammates Kristina Durbin, Nichole Thomas and Natalie Mullins.
 

4-H Teen Leadership Academy

The 4-H Teen Leadership Academy held graduation May 16 at the LaRue County Extension Office. LaRue County graduates, Delaina White, Darian White, Kristina Durbin and Michaela Rock, are pictured with 4-H Agent, Misty Wilmoth.
 

Hawks, Lady Hawks advance to...

The Hawks baseball team and Lady Hawks softball team each advanced to the 18th District Tournament Championship game Tuesday at Caverna.

LaRue faced Green County at 5 p.m. May 21 for the title. It’s the 24th consecutive year they have played in the championship.

Hawks on roll before entering...

Senior Austin Hinton threw a one-hitter as the homestanding Hawks rolled past 5th Region foe Fort Knox May 14 with a 10-0 victory in five innings.

Hinton struck out eight, walked four and gave up a single to Fort Knox freshman Alex Wendel in the fourth.

Senior Kelton Ford went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored for the Hawks, who blew the game open with a six-run fourth.

Senior Caleb Canter singled and drove in two runs, while eighth-grader Cameron Dawson singled, drove in a run and scored twice.
