The seven certified and four classified LaRue County School personnel who are retiring this year have left an indelible impression on students, parents, and colleagues with whom they shared their knowledge, skills and talent over the years.

The soon-to-be retirees include Mike Brown, Gary Canter, Vicki Devers, Connie Gowen, Rollanda Grubbs, Judy Hunter, Doris Jean Holleran, Melinda McCubbin, Rodney Montgomery, Connie Shawler and Carol Underwood.

A couple of months ago, Greg and Bonnie Ballard purchased about 100 acres and an old farmhouse on Bardstown Road at auction.
They wanted to expand their farming operation and expected to have the house bulldozed as soon as possible.
But when they walked inside, they had second thoughts. Inside the frame house is a two-story log house, built about 1890. The huge old logs are visible in a corner near the front door. The original stone fireplaces and hand-hewn handrail are still inside. There’s even a “Harry Potter” style room under the stairs.

Kevin and Karen Meredith are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie Meredith, to Tyler Hornback, son of Dean and Kelly Hornback.

Tyler and Katie are high school sweethearts. Katie works for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet; Tyler works for Hornback Construction.

Their wedding is 5:30 p.m. May 25, 2013, at South Fork Baptist Church. A private reception will follow.

The day Karl Highbaugh’s home was hooked up to a LaRue County public waterline is one of his most memorable.
For about two years, Highbaugh “hauled water” in milk jugs from a nearby farm to his home between Hodgenville and Sonora.
