Holt earns scholarship

 Haley Holt, daughter of Tony and Sandy Holt, is the recipient of the LaRue County High School Class of 1968 Memorial Scholarship.

She plans to attend Lindsey Wilson this fall and major in physical therapy.

The $500 scholarship has been awarded for the past five years and was established by the Class of ‘68 in memory of their deceased classmates.

Yard sale at OLM
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church is having a yard sale 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m. June 15. Proceeds will fund the costs of their youth group attending a Catholic youth conference.

Moonlight Big Band
The “Moonlight Big Band” will perform at My Old Kentucky Home State Park Rotunda, in Bardstown 7:30-10 p.m. June 24. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or chairs and enjoy the musical styling of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorcy and many more.

DeVary completes WKU’s ASSET  program

 Kyle DeVary, a senior at LaRue County High School, recently completed Western Kentucky University’s ASSET (Agriculture Students Striving for Effective Tomorrows) program for agriculture students.

The family of Dow Elliott will hold a potluck reunion 1 p.m. June 22 at the Christian Life Center, Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 2215 Mount Tabor Road, Buffalo. All family members are invited to attend.

USS Columbus veterans reunion
Navy and Marine Corps shipmates who served on the USS Columbus CA-74/CG-12 from 1944 to 1976 and the USS Columbus SSN-762, past and present, are invited to share memories and camaraderie.

The USS Columbus CA-74/CG-12/SSN reunion is Oct. 2-6 at Hilton, Branson, Missouri.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Whobrey of Clarkson would like to announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Ashley Whobrey, to Matthew Vertrees, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Vertrees of Upton.

The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Upton Baptist Church. Brother Larry Brown will officiate.

A reception will follow at the Upton Community Center.

Some invitations have been sent but all family and friends are welcome.

WEDDING: Lewis

Angel Danielle Humphrey and Adam Elisha Lewis were married May 31, 2013, in a private ceremony at the residence of Gordon McDowell.

The bride is the daughter of Daniel and Lisa Humphrey.

The groom is the son of Sid and Judy Lewis.

Attendants were the couple’s parents, Vicky Enlow and Bryson Elisa Lewis.

The couple lives in Hodgenville.

WEDDING: Thompson

Kimberly Williams and David Thompson, both of Hodgenville, were married Dec. 7, 2012, at The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., by Pastor Dave Simmons.

The bride is the daughter of the late James and Anna Williams of Hodgenville.

The groom is the son of Duane (Ginni) Thompson and Sandy (Richard) LaFollette, all of Hodgenville.

ANNIVERSARY: Gibsons celebrate 62 years

Kenneth and Rita Gibson of Magnolia will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 16, 2013.

They were married June 16, 1951, at St. Ann’s Church in Howardstown.

They have six children, Kenny Ray Gibson, Eugenia Butler, Dorman Gibson, Joey Gibson, Venita Hawkins and Viola Hawkins; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two on the way.
