Four LaRue County 4-H members attended the State 4-H Forestry competition at Mammoth Cave on Sept. 15.
The day included training in the morning and testing in the afternoon. The areas covered were compass and pacing, tree measurements and tree identification. In the compass and pacing, the participants first walked a 66-foot line to determine the length of their pace. They then measured the number of paces for three different lines and determined the distance in feet. They were also required to do three compass readings.
