Business evacuated after semi...

A local business was evacuated Tuesday, June 11, after a tractor trailer caught fire in its parking lot.

Richard Salyers, who was driving, said he was on his way to deliver a piece of machinery for R&D Railroad of Grayson. He realized he had a flat tire and pulled into the parking lot of Save-A-Lot, on Lincoln Drive in Hodgenville.

“I got out to take a look at it and the rear passengers’ tire was on fire,” Salyers said.

Greg Mayfield of Hodgenville and Melanie and Ronnie Read of Magnolia announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Hannah Renee Mayfield of Bowling Green, to John Matthew Stevenson of Bowling Green, son of Michelle and Leo Stevenson of Bee Spring.

The bride to be is a 2011 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. She is employed at the Medical Center in Bowling Green and has been accepted into the nurse practitioner program at Western Kentucky University.

Any graduating seniors, current Elizabethtown Community and Technical College students or other prospective students who want to play soccer are encouraged to attend tryouts. Men’s tryouts are 6-8 p.m. June 6 at Carroll Soccer Complex in Peterson Drive in Elizabethtown. Tryouts for women’s soccer are 6-8 p.m. June 17 at Carroll Soccer Complex.

City Council hears audit, passes...

Hodgenville City Council heard a belated auditor’s report Monday for year ending June 30, 2012.

Susan C. Mouser, a certified public accountant with Clauson, Mouser & Co., apologized for the delay, saying her company had encountered staffing problems during the time when 30-or-so government audits had been due.

“My goal next year is to have (financials) out by Jan. 31,” she said.

Quest '13 provides gifted...

This week, 127 of LaRue County’s gifted and talented students are on quests to broaden their knowledge while pursuing enjoyable activities at Hodgenville Elementary School.

“Quest ’13 provides enriching, challenging learning experiences for gifted-talented/talent pool students in LaRue County schools,” said Karyn Brey, district Read to Achieve intervention teacher and elementary gifted/talented coordinator.

LaRue County Schools is accepting nominations for the Distinguished Alumni program.

The award provides an opportunity to recognize accomplishments of graduates and, at the same time, demonstrates to the teachers and staff of the school district the positive impact they have upon the lives of young people.

Julie Hayden of Bardstown, and Christopher Fields and Michelle Wright of Taylorsville, announce the engagement of their parents, Carolyn Saltsman and Larry Fields, both of Hodgenville.

They will be married June 22, 2013, at an outdoor ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Kerfoot in Hodgenville.

The bride to be is a semi-retired registered nurse with Intrepid Home Health and a tour director with Shockey Tours in Louisville.
